Colin,

I think there might be a little more follow-up required. The sample that was sent indicates compliance with a red book ("...OPEN-LOOP Observation File - Format compliant with CCSDS 506.1-R-1...).

There is a blue book for this (CCSDS 506.1-B-1). Section 4.2 defines the observation header details. I don't think it quite matches what was sent (for example, there is no "V" or version line which the blue book calls out). Note that the observation header is quite short (which is also the case in the blue book). The majority of the file is then taken up with scan records, which I think is then the domain of DDOR proper. And not necessarily something that would concern TGFT per se.

In general though this brings up a question of how much of this metadata would be brought "outside" of the file to be transferred by TGFT. My initial thinking is that given that the DDOR WG has already defined a fair amount of metadata that is apparently used quite successfully that we really don't need much for TGFT. This is based on the assumption that the job for TGFT is simply to move the files from point A to point B and provide some very basic metadata as to what the file is about that can then be used for subsequent decisions as to what to do with the file. Under that assumption, it seems to me that the basic metadata re TGFT would be:

1) DOR file type -- either a raw observation file for correlation or the correlated product/result (which is a very small file)

2) The source of the file (Correlator Id or Observer Id in the case of the DDOR "raw" file)

3) The spacecraft identifier for which the file is applicable

I think that would do it but of course we should check with the DDOR WG further. I also think that this does a good job of steering clear of work that has already been done.

Best regards,
-Erik

Dear all,
please find attached an example of delta-dor metedata that Mattia supplied to me. With respect to the size of delta-dor files I understand from Mattia that "It depends on the length of the recording, the sampling rate and the quantisation. For Delta-DOR they can go from a minimum of about 25MB to a maximum of about 2GB, depending on the configuration"

Cheers for now,

Colin

Hi Colin,

Please find attached a metadata file associated to the DDOR session
(it is a ASCII file)

Regards,

Mattia

Hi Mattia,
would it be possible for you to send me an example of the metadata that is associated with a delta-dor file ?. Could you also let me know what sort of size a typical delta-dor data file is ?

Thanks.

Cheers for now,

Colin
