In case you've opened a PDF on the CWE lately, see below... the answer is based on my inquiry to CCSDS Tech Support as to why PDFs opened on CWE are opened in MS Office Online (i.e., NOT with the Acrobat reader).

Until recently, I was unaware that PDFs were now opening up in the online MS Word.

Many CWE users and the CMC (at the lat meeting) were confused on why they were being promoted repeatedly for their CWE credentials when they clicked on an MS Office document directly in the CWE.  The reason this was occurring was that SharePoint was actually opening the file for editing on the server and allowing the clients MS Office installation the ability to be the editor of the document.  This was confusing a lot of our end users, and the workaround was to ask them to download a copy to their client instead.

The solution was for ASRC to stand up an Office Online Server, which allowed all of the MS-related documents to be viewable/editable in the browser.

But, I am not a big fan of the PDFs opening in Office Online.  I am going to discuss with ASRC at our next IT Tag Up.

In the meantime, you can open documents in your default PDF viewer by doing the following.
1) Click on the “…” to the right of the filename.
2) Click “Open”
