I was circulating the text to the group to get consensus on the text before formally replying to you.

 

However, to answer your question for BBh23 my proposal was to change the last 2 paragraphs of section 3.2.5 

 

From:

A Long Term technology usage plan, updated as technology evolves, is essential to avoid being caught with very costly system maintenance, emergency system replacements, and costly data representation transformations.

The Archive should have a formal Succession Plan, contingency plans, and/or escrow arrangements in place in case the Archive ceases to operate or the governing or funding institution substantially changes its scope. The formal Succession Plan should include planning for how the AIPs will be findable once they have been moved to a successor repository.

To:

The technology usage and staffing plans of the Archive will also be influenced by decisions of the Archive on such things as the Designated Communities and Preservation Objectives. There will be implications for the resources required by the Archive.

The Archive should have a formal Succession Plan, contingency plans, and/or escrow arrangements in place in case the Archive ceases to operate or the governing or funding institution substantially changes its scope. The formal Succession Plan should include planning for how the AIPs will be findable once they have been moved to a successor repository.

By the way, I must take this opportunity to say that your comments have been extremely helpful. You have clearly read the lengthy document very carefully and have certainly identified issues which we had not previously addressed but which, it is clear, are issues which are important for repositories and repository managers.

I am satisfied with your response to BBh22 and BBh36. I am not sure that I understand where you want to insert your new paragraph in response to BBh23.

Hello David,

 

Please find my comments inserted in the attached file. My main points address:

*	The preservation objectives : it is a new feature you have added in this version, but it may have major impacts on the design of the OAIS and in this document, these objectives do not seem to be defined at the beginning of the development of the OAIS nor validated by Management, which concerns me.
*	the definitions that are not in line with the ones used by the SM&C WG and by other groups and should be reviewed
