[CESG] [EXTERNAL] RID Database

Colin,

It's a real pity that we have platform inter-operability issues. Access comes bundled with my version of office and I was able to take a look. I like it. I like the fact that there is a simple entry form that allows attachments (good for reviewers), I like being able to quickly see the list of RID submitters, and I like the mail merge output report, which looks just like the old asci files, but generated from the database, but still also have the ability to look at the entire set of RIDs quickly in tabular format and perform further queries (all good for RID disposition processing). Apart from the platform inter-operability "requirement" I would say that you basically nailed a nice database approach. Perhaps you are too advanced for CCSDS :) (I'm being facetious in case anyone does not understand that).

Thanks very much for taking the time and effort to demonstrate a possibility to consider.

Best regards,
-Erik

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [CESG] RID Database

Dear all,
                  I am aware that the decision at the Mountain View Meeting with respect to the CCSDS RID database was to use an Excel based approach. However after having spent a little time on it I've uploaded an MS Access based database that could be used. This contained 4 forms;

  1. Document Details Entry Form - Used to enter the details of the document(s) under review.

  1. Reviewer Details Entry Form - Used to enter details of the reviewer(s)

  1. RID Entry Form - Used to enter the RID details

  1. RID Review Form - Used to review the RIDs

  1.
The fields in the RID forms correspond pretty much to the existing CCSDS text based form with the addition of 2 fields, 1 for attachments and 1 to indicate which other RIDs the RID may be related to.

It is also possible to produce a a Word report of the RIDs from the database using Words mail merge facility.

In the upload there are 4 files;

  1. https://cwe.ccsds.org/cesg/docs/CWE%20Private/CCSDS%20Access%20Database%20Example/CCSDS%20RID%20Database.accdb - An empty access database with the appropriate table, forms etc.

  1. https://cwe.ccsds.org/cesg/docs/CWE%20Private/CCSDS%20Access%20Database%20Example/CCSDS%20RID%20Database%20Report%20Template.docx - Word document providing the template for the mail merge report.

  1. https://cwe.ccsds.org/cesg/docs/CWE%20Private/CCSDS%20Access%20Database%20Example/Example.accdb - An example populated database (data used to populate it comes from an old Simple Schedule Red Review + some test data)

  1. https://cwe.ccsds.org/cesg/docs/CWE%20Private/CCSDS%20Access%20Database%20Example/Example%20RIDs%20Database%20Report.docx - An example report generated via mail merge from the example database.

  1.
The above was nailed together quite quickly and I won't claim its totally bullet proof but I think it covers pretty much all that's needed.

Anyway if you're interested please take a look.

Cheers for now,

Colin
