Hello Colin,

I have done some spot checking on various schemas and it all looks good with regard to the flattened structure. A couple items of note:

  1. the readme file seems a bit out of date - it still talks about folders. I think if you were to replace folder with "book" it should work.
  2. The planning information format needs to also indicate "communications" (change of name from PIF to CPIF)
  3. I know we agreed on the convention quite some time ago but taking a look at all the files listed there - wow those are long filenames. It seems that we could shorten this without losing any clarity. I think anyone who works with these will know that they are XML schema files so a suggestion is to eliminate the "schema" as part of the file name. Also, "Cssm" appears in all the filenames and to my eye that tends to make them less distinct. So we could eliminate these bits of "fixed string". A more radical proposal, but I still think workable is to go with abbreviations, which would imply that we have agreed upon, well identified abbreviations. Here are some examples: (assuming table renders properly after going through list server)

Now

Minus fixed string

Abbreviation

902x01b1p1-SchemaCssmSimpleSchedule

902x01b1p1-SimpleSchedule

902x01b1-SSF.xsd

902x04w0_00-SchemaCssmServicePackageDataFormats.xsd

902x04w0_00-ServicePackageDataFormats.xsd

902x04w0_00-SPDF.xsd

902x09w0_09.01-SchemaCssmServiceManagementUtlizationRequestFormats.xsd

902x09w0_09.01-ServiceManagementUtlizationRequestFormats.xsd

902x09w0_09.01-SMURF.xsd

To me, nothing is really being lost in terms of identifying what the file is about and it seems more distinct which I think might be somewhat important given that this is now going into a "flat" registry. If going with the abbreviation approach, then, for 902x09w0_09.01-SMURF.xsd which could then have "extended" names like 902x09w0_09.01-SMURF-BasicConstraints.xsd , etc

What are your thoughts? If you and the WG agree with one of the updated approaches, I can update the convention in the inter-recommendation spreadsheet and I can volunteer to do the editing on the schema files, etc. Personally I like the abbreviation approach.

Best regards,
-Erik

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [cssm] Refactored Schemas and UML Model

Dear all,
                I've refactored the Schemas and UML model as per todays WebEx to have a flat structure and uploaded these to CWE. They can be found at the following URLs;

UML Model: https://cwe.ccsds.org/css/docs/CSS-SM/CWE%20Private/Book%20Production/UML%20Model/902UmlModel%2020191119.zip
Schema: https://cwe.ccsds.org/css/docs/CSS-SM/CWE%20Private/Book%20Production/Schemas/902Schema%2020191119.zip

Cheers for now,

Colin
