[Sls-slp] CCSDS SOIS Wireless WG Proposed Charter for Review

Dear Kevin,

I concur with Jean-Luc's comments. I had just a detailed comment on §1.1.3 - item 1-f : inter-vehicle coms scenarios :

- inter-vehicle scenarios are already partly covered by prox-1 protocol. So I think that, like for item g (surface-to-orbiter), it should be mentioned that this functional area is also adressed by the Space Link Services (SLS) technical area.

- typo : in text of item f, replace "intra-vehicle communications" by "inter-vehicle communications".

Best regards,

Gilles MOURY

Dear Kevin,
Your charter is very well done. I fully subscribe to the - very pragmatic - strategy that you propose.

I have a couple of comments:

1. Dual area director is uncommon, though justifiable in this case. Indeed, intra-vehicle coms belong to SOIS whereas the other cases belong to SLS. How to resolve practically this dual-area situation deserves to be discussed at CESG 2. My team in ESA is currently working on the subject and I believe we will be able to play an active role 3. One important point: your charter is only addressing communication services when I strongly believe that the wireless networks in use on lunar or Mars surface will have to also provide navigation service. The ability to provide in real time an accurate position information of all mobile users (astronauts, rovers) is an invaluable asset that needs to be taken into account from the outset. After all, the use of wireless coms systems to complement GPS in urban and indoor environment is under development, we can benefit of these developments. We are working on this.

Dear CCSDS members and wireless-interested parties -

Attached is the proposed charter for the CCSDS Spacecraft Onboard Interface Services, SOIS, Wireless Working Group (WWG).

We are posting the proposed charter for a broader community review prior to submitting to the CCSDS Engineering Steering Group, CSEG, for ratification.

The proposed Wireless Working Group realizes the breadth of application and technical issues (e.g., security, QoS) that wireless data transmission may impact. We plan on working closely with established CCSDS Working Groups as we go forward in establishing recommendations for wireless communications in support of space activities. To this end, we are requesting 10 minutes of your time to review, and comment on, the attached proposed charter.

All critiques, comments, and suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance for your time.

Sincerely,

Kevin Gifford
