Andrea,

I totally agree with Matt below and look forward to further collaboration between our WGs on these matters.

Best regards,

Hi Andrea,

Thank you for the heads up on these discussions. I agree that “AOS FHEC” is not clear in the document and needs to be fixed. I also welcome your proposal to provide draft text for our review (as you are the experts!). It would be interested to know how people have implemented it in the past (and future).

VLF – maybe a more interesting topic, and your approach of a joint meeting with SLP and Optica WG is the best way forward.

Regards, Matt

Subject: [SLS-CC] C&S Fall meeting 2021 - discussion on VLF and AOS FHEC

Dear Greg and Matt,
by means of this email I would to bring your attention on two main agenda items that were discussed during C&S Fall meeting 2021 (MoM can be found in attachment).

AOS FHEC: the recommendation of the C&S WG is to keep the FHEC (since it will be adopted by future missions), but to propose to your WG a possible update of the Blue Book (for avoiding ambiguity on the Virtual Fill to be done on the shortened Reed Solomon). In light of this, we have an AI to provide a draft of the changes that you should consider for implementationg.
Additionally, we are planning to check with Data handling manufacturer what kind of virtual fill was implemented so far, for possibly avoiding to create a non-compliance to existing units.

VLF: we started the discussion on the topic (see MoM Section 2.5.2), in particular for implementing a slicer for enabling VLF.
For next Spring meeting, we plan to draft a concept paper for having a dedicated project, and would like to have a joint meeting with your WG for discussing possible technical solutions (in particular the frame synchronisation).
It could be worth to invite also the Optical WG, since I understand they have a similar discussion on-going (for this, I put in CC Bernard)

Kind Regards
