draft of dispositions

Gian Paolo (FYI):

In implementing your RID to move the definitions of terms from annex C to
section 1, I deleted four terms, three from the annex-C definitions and
one from the existing subsection 1.6.1.3:

1) Data Link Layer: The layer which provides means for transferring
data supplied by users (i.e., Network Layer entities) using the capability
provided by the Physical Layer. It detects and possibly corrects error
which may occur in the Physical Layer.

2) Physical Layer: The layer below the Synchronization and Channel
Coding Sublayer which provides the RF channel. At the sending end it
provides the radio frequency and modulation techniques required to create
and operate the channel. At the receiving end it provides the reception,
demodulation, and symbol synchronization for the channel.

Rationale: The terms above are listed in 1.6.1.1 as terms from OSI Basic
Reference Model, the annex-C definitions do not precisely match those of
OSI Basic Reference Model terms, and it makes no sense to claim use of the
OSI terms and then to redefine them as Terms Defined in This Recommended
Standard.

3) Logical Link Sublayer: That sublayer of the Data Link Layer used
by CCSDS space link protocols which generates a stream of Transfer Frames
from data supplied by users of the Data Link Layer.

4) Mission Phase: A period of a mission during which specified
communications characteristics are fixed. The transition between two
consecutive mission phases may cause an interruption of the communications
services.

Rationale: These terms are not used in the document (and the document is
not intended to be a glossary).

Subject: Fw: [EXTERNAL] [SLS-CC] Fw: Agency review of CCSDS 231.0 - draft
of dispositions

Dear colleagues,
I did not received additional comments on the RID dispositions.

Hence, I believe the agency review of CCSDS 231.0 can be considered closed
with final dispositions as by attachment.
Additionally, there is the editorial noticed by John Pietras (but not
reported as a RID)

In Section 2.2.3, the last sentence of the first paragraph currently
says, “This is described in section 4.” It should say, “This is described
in section 5”.

I kindly ask the AD to issue a resolution.

Please notice that given the nature of the update, and considering what
reported in the Charter, a prototype is not required.

@Tom, given the simple changes, can you implement directly the
dispositions and the single editorial?

Kind Regards

Dear Ken,
for RID AM-01 and AM-02 it is fine with me your minor changes.
You can find the updated disposition.

For everybody else, kind reminder that deadline for comments is 3rd May.
If there will be no additional comments, I believe we can close the review
by email

Andrea,

Sure enough, your email messages about RIDs to the “TC Coding” Blue Book
did not reach me, or presumably the rest of the working group. There were
two more RIDs submitted by NASA (one by David Ni, one by John Pietras),
but both are duplicates of the JAXA RID, which noted the error between
“Sending” and “Receiving” in the captions of Figures 2-4 and 2-5.

John Pietras also noted that there’s an incorrect cross-reference in the
document, though it's outside of the material covered by the RIDs. In
Section 2.2.3, the last sentence of the first paragraph currently says,
“This is described in section 4.” It should say, “This is described in
section 5”.

I hadn’t seen your two RIDs before, but both look like good ideas to me.
By preference, I’d change the wording of each of them slightly as follows,
but I don’t feel strongly about it.

RID AM-01
I would change the “To:” text to be:
When BCH coding is used, the Pseudo-Randomizer defined in this section is
required unless the system designer verifies proper operation of the
system if this Randomizer is not used. Its use is fixed for a Physical
Channel and is managed (i.e., its presence or absence is not signaled but
is known a priori by the receiver), per Table 8-2.
RID AM-02:
I would change the “To:” text to be:
6.3.1 The randomization shall be applied at the transmitting end, and it
When BCH coding is used with the Pseudo-Randomizer, randomization shall be
applied only…
…
NOTES
1 Requirements for randomization of fill data are specified in
3.4.3 for BCH coding and 4.4.3 for LDPC coding.
2 Randomization for BCH coding is optional, and managed per Table
8-2.

Thanks,

-Ken

Dear all,
it occurred to me that the mailing list below was probably not received by
everybody because of my mistake in selecting the 'bounces' email.

In summary, for the Agency Review of CCSDS 231.0 "TC Synchronization and
Channel Coding", we received the RIDs in attachment (1 SLS, 2 ESA, 1
JAXA).
From a quick review they all appear minor modifications. Hence I did a
draft of dispositions, and I propose to agree them by correspondence
instead of having a dedicated telco.

In this respect, by no later than 3rd May EOB (PDT), please let me know if
you have any issue with the proposed approach or the drafted dispositions.

Thanks a lot and sorry for the mistake,

Kind Regards

Dear all,
please find in attachment a first draft of the dispositions for the Agency
Review of CCSDS 231.0.

In order to give enough time to everybody for the review, I suggest a
deadline in about two weeks.
Hence, please let me know if you don't agree with the dispositions no
later than 28th April EOB (PDT)

Kind Regards

Dear all,
I received no objections concerning the approach of drafting disposition
by correspondence.

I thus take action to provide a first draft of the disposition within this
working week and distribute them to the WG for comments/edits.
