[Sis-exec] Forthcoming SIS Resolutions

Folks,

I'm about to issue the following resolutions from SIS:

1) Suspend the Cislunar WG and archive works-in-progress in a private
area of the CCSDS web site
2) Terminate IP-Over-CCSDS and archive works-in-progress in a private
area of the CCSDS web site
3) Publish Mars Profiles Green Book for CESG Review (yeah!)

I have already issued a resolution to dissolve the CFDP
Interoperability Testing WG, since all of its documents are published.

So, why the difference (suspend vs. terminate) between Cislunar and
IP-Over-CCSDS? The Cislunar work MAY be resurrected as a result of the
work of the IOAG, although it will likely become something similar in
nature to the Mars (Near Term) profile WG. The IP-Over-CCSDS document
has provoked an issue that I believe cannot be resolved, and I believe
that the ONLY consensus is captured in the "Overview of Space Link
Protocols", CCSDS 130.0-G-1. As a result, I don't believe that there
is utility in retaining the IP-Over-CCSDS Working Group on the books,
because I don't expect anyone to walk up with a defibrillator anytime
soon.

Here's the text of the resolutions, which I don't think come as much of
a surprise to anyone -- if you have a problem, please holler quickly.

Thanks,
Bob

SIS-R-2007-10-001 - Dissolve CFDP Interoperability Testing Working
Group. Already submitted.

=======================================

SIS-R-2007-10-002

The Space Internetworking Services Area,

CONSIDERING that the work of the Cislunar Space Internetworking working
group has identified issues requiring direction from the IOAG regarding
space internetworking in order to proceed with RID resolution, and

RECOGNIZING that this work will likely restart once that direction has
been received, and further

RECOGNIZING that the work products to-date do not yet represent agency
consensus and are therefore inappropriate for public access,

RESOLVES that further activities of the Cislunar Space Internetworking
Working Group be suspended and its documents archived in a private area
of the CCSDS Web site until such time as relevant direction regarding
space internetworking requirements is received.

SIS-R-2007-10-003

The Space Internetworking Services Area,

CONSIDERING that the (second) agency review of the IP Over CCSDS Red
(Draft Magenta) Book has resulted in RIDs for which no consensus seems
possible, and

RECOGNIZING that all of the information in the Draft Magenta book for
which consensus is possible is captured in a non-normative Green Book
(Overview of Space Link Protocols, CCSDS 130.0-G-1, June 2001), and

RECOGNIZING that the work products to-date do not represent agency
consensus and are therefore inappropriate for public access,

RESOLVES that further activities of the IP Over CCSDS Working Group be
terminated and its documents archived in a private area of the CCSDS
Web site.

SIS-R-2007-10-004

The Space Internetworking Services Area,

CONSIDERING that the Mars 2015 Interoperability Working Group has
developed a Green Book describing the purpose and rationale supporting
the specification of communication protocols to be used in Mars
proximity operations addressing the time frame of 2008 through 2015,
and

RECOGNIZING that prompt publication is required to meet mission
requirements, and

RECOGNIZING that CESG review and approval is required for publication,

RESOLVES that the draft rationale document "Mars Mission Protocol
Profiles, Purpose and Rationale" be referred to the CESG for review and
approval as CCSDS 850.0-G-1.
