All,
I am resending this email, since I only received one response to it so far.
I really would like to get your impression (not a detailed answer or review
- I would leave that to the meetings) about the changes that we (Ed and I)
have proposed to the Time Code Blue Book. We believe that these changes are
in the spirit of the original standard and that they provide greater
flexibility for expanding the time code (both in terms of seconds and
subseconds) for future missions.
Please feel free to pass this email to other colleagues who you think are
interested in this topic.
thanks,
Greg Kazz

All,
I am working with the SE area director, Peter Shames in order to form a
Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) group within CCSDS to discuss a proposed update to
the Timecode Formats Blue Book. See
http://public.ccsds.org/publications/archive/301x0b3.pdf
The NASA Constellation Project (CxP) has expressed a need to CCSDS to have
it extend the timecode in terms of the number of seconds and extend the
resolution of the sub-seconds portion of the timecode. Basically CxP wants
to have extend the time code in both directions i.e., for finer resolution
beyond the current 3-byte, 40-ns resolution and also be able to extend the
seconds field beyond the current approximate 136 year capacity.
In order to determine if this proposal has merit that other space agencies
could benefit from, I am forming a BoF to examine the feasibility of such a
extension to the timecode T and P fields.
I have attached a strawman proposal to this email in the form of a pdf Pink
sheet for examination along with rationale in the draft BoF word document.
Please let me know if you have any comments.
best regards,
Greg Kazz
