[Sea-time] Time Services BoF

Hi Peter,

I have polled the relevant MOIMS WGs to indicate their interest in
supporting this work and to identify possible contact points:

NAV: the topics of "time exchange, time correlation, and time
synchronization" are not in the FD domain (they are usually covered by the
mission control system). As such the NAV CCSDS WG offers the support if
required, but takes no active role.

SM&C: There is an interest in participating and Sam Cooper is the contact
point.

MP&S: time is an essential aspect, however we are more a user of Time
services (e.g. in Plan Execution function) and of time based Events. Not
knowing the scope, I wanted just to pass the request to also consider the
specification of an "application level" time service that provides
capabilities for
- subscribing to time events in different systems (e.g. for receiving
notifications for OBT or UTC if for instance a GPS flies onboard) in
different resolutions
- request a time reset
- request a time synch
- request an event to be triggered on a given time (like an alarm clock)
- ...
We do not need to be involved directly but if the BOF is created, I would
suggest that we formulate our needs (in form of capabilities needed for
Mission Planning and Scheduling) in a technical note and pass it to them.

Best regards,

__Mario

Dear CCSDS Colleagues,

As you heard mentioned during the CCSDS plenary, the IOAG has asked CCSDS
to develop some standards for time exchange, time correlation, and time
synchronization. Organizing that cross area work has fallen on the
shoulders of the Systems Engineering Area. We do not, in and of
ourselves, have all of the resources nor the expertise to do this work
ourselves. Consequently, we are asking each of you, who have area and
working group responsibilities that are related to these topics, to
indicate your interest in supporting this work and to identify one
individual who will address the topics from your Area / WG point of view.

Assuming that there is sufficient interest we will convene an exploratory
BoF session to determine if there is a path forward that makes sense at
this time. Please give some thought to how this fits into your area and
also if there is someone you can identify to lead this work. We will also
poll the CMC to see if they have anyone they would like to propose as WG
chair.

Thanks, Peter
