Subject: [CCSDS-All] Recent Changes in CCSDS Leadership
Dear CCSDS Members,
As of 31 January 2019, Dr. James Afarin has retired from his position at NASA and from the roles of CCSDS General Secretary, CMC Chair, and NASA Agency Representative. I would like to take a moment to thanks James for his efforts in supporting the development of data handling techniques supporting space research and interoperability.
Today, Dr. Stephen Townes (NASA-JPL) was confirmed by the CMC as CCSDS General Secretary and CMC Chair. He will also serve as NASA’s Agency Representative. Many of you no doubt already know Stephen as he is a regular participant in the Optical Communications Working Group. Stephen also serves as the Chief Technologist of the Interplanetary Network Directorate and Manager of the Technology, Standards and Spectrum Program Office, at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). I would like to congratulate Stephen and say that I look forward to working with him.
The ESA Agency Representative has also recently changed. Mike McKay has stepped down from this role and ESA will be represented by Nicolas Bobrinsky. Please join me in welcoming Nicolas to the CCSDS community.
Best regards,
Michael Blackwood
