[Moims-dai] Meeting in The Hague - in-person or by video

Hi John

All good points but the only reason for my raising this issue is that JPL is
not allowing its people to travel to the meeting. If not for this, bearing
in mind that Steve is document editor for the MB, I would have been "happy"
to fund my own travel and subsistence for the meeting.

So, you ask good questions John but I think those are questions for JPL.

On a more positive note, I was actually looking for ideas for the agenda
which would justify a number of us meeting in person without Steve, noting
that Steve would not even be available by video in the morning. If I, for
one, do travel to The Hague, I do not want to waste any time.

Ideas I have that we could make progress on without Steve, and without
having to go through it all with Steve each afternoon, because they do not
directly impact the MB and BB:

1.	The Yellow Book - complete descriptions of at least a few Test Cases
2.	Discuss possibilities of other interfaces, which could be in other
BBs, e.g. RepInfo, Fixity, Access Rights, Context, Reference and, Provenance
- although I believe Steve has an interest in Provenance - and maybe
Preservation Objectives etc
3.	Document tree
4.	????

Any thoughts?

..David

Hi,

I'm concerned that we didn't have participation at the Huntsville meeting
and we may not have a meeting now in the Hague.

I think we need the international face-to-face meetings to actually make
progress.

If we don't meet, this session will become like just another weekly meeting,
perhaps with a couple extra sessions that week.

That's pretty much what happened since COVID.

I think it presents a poor appearance to CCSDS management about whether we
are a serious WG.
I think our poor attendance at Huntsville already did that.

Also it begins to get into tit for tat retaliations where US doesn't attend
a meeting then ESA doesn't approve travel for the next one. But we are
already stuck in that situation.

Will there be attendance at the next US meeting where ever that will be?

Peace, joy, and prosperity,

-JOhn

Dear all

I gather that at least a few people (John, Mike and maybe Roberta) plan to
be in The Hague in November. But Steve (and other JPL people) have had their
travel cancelled, so he cannot be there.

My concern is that since the weekly meetings are largely discussions between
Steve and I, I am not sure what we will be able to do at the November
meeting that we will not be able to do via video-meetings. Peter Shames
suggested that WGs could video meet with JPL folk at 1400 - 1800 PM CET
daily over that period.

In other words, I don't know whether it is worth the expenditure of time and
money for me, or anyone, to travel to The Hague - and stay, eat etc.

Personally, I'd rather do daily extended video meetings, much as I like
seeing people in person.

Any thoughts?

Regards

..David
