I agree with David's response.

Also want to add that a Content Data Object is a Data Object that hold the
Content data.

It is NOT the content of a Data Object.  A Data Object could hold other
types of data - Representation, Fixity, Context, etc.  In those cases that
Data Object would NOT be a CDO.

My explanation:

 

OAIS defines Content Data Object as: The Data Object, that together with
associated Representation Information, comprises the Content Information.

 

In other words, a "Data Object" is the general term. A "Content Data Object"
is a specific Data Object, for example being preserved within an AIP.

During the translation of the OAIS in French, the following question has
been raised : what is exactly the meaning of "Content Data Object" (is it an
object representing the Content Data or the content of a Data Object ?) and
what is its relation with "Data Object" ? 

I hope some of you could help me to clarify these two concepts.
