18th May meeting minutes

DB: Daniele Boucon
DG: David Giaretta
DS: Don Sawyer
EC: Esther Conway
JG: John Garrett
MA : Mirko Albani
MM: Mike Martin
RD: Robert Downs
SH : Steve Hughes
SM: Stephane Mbaye
SR: Stephane Reecht
BC: Bertrand Caron
PT: Jean-Philippe Tramoni
WG: all

D=Decision, A=action (other = discussion)

Note: the historical minutes have been suppressed because already included in my email 25th March for the GB part, and I'm not sure it's necessary to keep now the general comments on ICP following all our previous discussions.

Participants: DB, JG, MM

2. 1 Information Lifecycle Framework (ILF)

MM: need for more detailed content in the current framework document. The LTDP common guidelines document is very interesting. Link should be made between the 8 high level themes and the stages of the lifecycle.

The 8 themes:
*Preserved Data Set Content and appraisal
*Archive operation and organization
*Archive security
*Data ingestion
*Archive maintenance
*Data access and interoperability
*Data exploitation and re-processing
*Data purge prevention

=> A=>(MM): draw a mapping between the LTDP common guidelines themes and the ILF document.

DB: the LTDP common guidelines are mainly dedicated to space agencies in order to guaranty that they are able to preserve data (minimum level A). The objective of the ILF is different, as it is supposed to give recommendations to projects to take into account during the life of the data from the creation (near to the LTDP preservation process, broader and more generic).

DB: also make a link between the ILF and the LTDP preservation process.

=> A=>(JG + DB): draw a mapping between the LTDP preservation process activities and the ILF document.

The objective of the current framework document is a high level description of the content of the future standard, in order to attract participation from other agencies/organizations. From this point of view the document could be stopped now, and the WG could begin to work on a formal CCSDS formal document standard.

>From MM's point of view, this document should contain more details. JG and DB reply that we have to produce a draft standard document for end of 2015 and thus not spend too much time on this one. It is decided that MM completes the current document with sections of interest for NASA.

Discussion on the level of details required for the ILF: for example checklist of main points to be handled in a Data Management Plan ...

=> A=>(MM): complete the current framework document with some more details (Data Management Plan ...).
=> A=>(JG): initiate a standard document.

Actions review
Please send to JG updates in actions.
Updated actions will be sent separately by JG.

End of 18th May meeting minutes
