Hi all,

Please find below:

· The presentation from Stephane Reecht "Overview on METS", and a message from him, at the end of my email,

· A draft presentation from Stephane Mbaye for discussion showing links between XFDU and METS with potential first solutions.

The objective of the sessions during the CCSDS meeting are:

1. Draw a model from Stephane's practical test case (need for Stephane input on test case description -types of objects to be transferred and organization among them)

2. PAIS and METS manifest: possible solutions for conformity.

Cheers,

Daniele

Presentation of the METS standard

See the ppt that should have been presented yesterday (sorry for the technical problems).

The best resource to learn about METS is the main page of the standard on the Library of Congress' website : http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/ . From this point, you will find every technical resource you could need : schema, METS profiles, implementation registry (not very up to date, but very useful to see how different institutions can choose a way to implement this standard). A quite detailed but very easy to understand overview can be found on this page : <http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/> http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/METSOverview.v2.html (this is my advice N. 1).<http://www.loc.gov/standards/mets/METSOverview.v2.html>

As you will see, this standard is pretty close to XFDU. It makes distinction between data objects (fileSec & structMap) and metadata (dmdSec & amdSec) ; uses links and pointers ; allows wrapping of a wide range of md formats, as well as external references.

In the SIP example that Danièle sent to you (220908.xml), you can see at lines 65-69 a "channelIdentifier" with a value "info:bnf/spar/context/fil_num_cons_a". This is the URI of one of our production channels (something like a project). It is linked to a SLA, which is used to check if the ingest complies with the terms negotiated between Producer and Archive.
It is our proper way to manage the checks in the ingest, in the framework of BnF's digital repository SPAR.
Seeing how PAIS could be implemented in METS will be the purpose of the sessions during the meeting w/c November 10.

Stephane Reecht
