New Delhi, April 23: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)
has joined hands with the US's National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA) for space explorations, parliament was informed
Wednesday.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan
said the framework agreement was signed between the two space
research organisations for cooperation in the "exploration and use of
outer space for peaceful purposes".

"The areas identified for co-operation include earth sciences,
observation and monitoring; space science; exploration systems; space
operations; and other relevant areas of mutual interest," Chavan
informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

The agreement was signed in February and has an initial validity of 10 years.

The cooperation between ISRO and NASA for Chandrayaan-1, India's
unmanned moon mission scheduled later this year, was covered
separately under two other agreements signed in May 2006.
