Hi Adrian,
it doesn't seem that we have a big overlap with OMG. Except the XTCE, we feel that the conflicts are more at the level of the intents (i.e. OMG' RFI/RFP's) than with the actual work. A liaison that monitors these initiatives could be sufficient in our point of view ; the only improvement would be if we were aware of OMG initiatives in advance. They are aware of ours as they are on distribution list from the SM&C WG.
By the way I had in my notes that the liaison was already by Mario Merri (ESA and chair of MOIMS/SM&C).
Best regards

Objet : [CMC] OMG relationships (Re: 2007 January CMC Meeting Minutes)
Status of MOU between CCSDS and the Object Management Group (OMG) - Mr. Hooke reported that NASA has reduced its membership level in OMG. A response has been received from OMG that condones continued participation between both groups but did not require an MOU. The CMC agreed to continue their liaison with OMG via a joint mailing list and liaison representative Mr. Greg Kazz.
1. Please see the attached message exchange with the OMG. Does any CMC member think that we need to formalize an agreement?
2. Referring to http://public.ccsds.org/participation/liaisons.aspx you will see that the "Object Management Group / CCSDS point of contact is Mr. Gregg Kazz". I would propose that perhaps someone from MOIMS might be a more appropriate person to perform this liaison. Do we have a nominee?
3. By the way, Martin, can you confirm the following Fall 2008 arrangements yet? --
FALL, 2008: Location - Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany; Host - DLR
-- CCSDS Technical Plenary: 13-17 October 2008
-- CESG work day (Area Directors): 20 October, AM and PM
-- SC13: 20 October, PM
-- CESG/CMC joint: 21-22 October
-- CMC wrap-up: 23 October
Best regards
Adrian

Jamie: sincere apologies for the late reply. Your message came in right at the end of the January CCSDS meeting and it got swamped in the wrap-up traffic.

Our 2007 meetings are already locked in with firm contracts, and our 2008 meetings will likely be under firm contract within a week or two from today. I have set out our schedule for both years below. If the CCSDS schedule permits, we can work on the logistics for particular dates and venues. Please let me know.
March 26-30, 2007 - OMG Technical Meeting - San Diego, CA USA
June 25-29, 2007 - OMG Technical Meeting - Brussels, Belgium
September 24-28, 2007 - OMG Technical Meeting - Jacksonville, FL USA
December 10-14, 2007 - OMG Technical Meeting - Burlingame, CA USA
March 10-14, 2008 OMG - Technical Meeting - Washington, DC USA
June 23-27, 2008 OMG - Technical Meeting - Canada (City TBD)
September 22-26, 2008 OMG - Technical Meeting - Orlando, FL USA
December 8-12, 2008 OMG - Technical Meeting - San Jose, CA USA
Right now CCSDS has reverted to meeting twice/year, in May and October, and nominally rotating between USA-Europe-USA-etc. We have made our own firm hosting arrangements as follows:
October 2007: Darmstadt, Germany
May 2008: Colorado Springs, USA
October 2008: Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany
We'd be interested in hearing about any locations that you have selected for OMG meetings in May 2009, October 2009, May 2010, October 2010, etc. and beyond.
Joint Projects - The OMG Space Domain Task Force has been working on several projects, and XTCE is certainly the most significant result so far. We are pleased to see the activity and energy of the participants in the OMG Space Task Force. Of course, in the OMG process, the members drive and perform the work, so we are monitoring it to provide any encouragement and support that we can.
If you have suggestions for ways that OMG and CCSDS can work together and/or define their separate "jurisdictions", we would be happy to prepare a formal agreement embodying them. Nonetheless, we believe that the relationship is already working well, and we look forward to its continuation.
I presented the above two messages to the CCSDS Management Council on 24 January and it was the general consensus of the Member agencies that we should continue our productive liaison with OMG via a joint mailing list and a liaison representative, but at present there seems to be no pressing need to formalize an agreement.
Best regards
Adrian
