[CESG] Best Descriptions of IOAG First Hop / Last Hop Service concepts

Guys,

I was glad that I could be present during the joint SM&C and DTN WG discussion.   I’m really pleased that this concept, first described by the IOAG in 2009, is now getting some CCSDS effort.  I am a little concerned that the intent of these services may not be completely understood, and I would like to ensure that the intent is met by any new services / protocols that are formally defined.

I’m attaching the best of the background materials that I have in hand.  Some of this is years old, but I believe that it is still both germane and useful.  You can interpret it on your own, or, if you wish, I can support this by presenting just what it Is that the IOAG SISG had intended.

  1.  SCCS-ADD, CCSDS 901.0-G-1, 2013, A complete description of these services and how they are intended to fit into the rest of the CCSDS end-to-end architecture.  See 6.5.3 SSI LAST-HOP AND FIRST-HOP SERVICE for the best description (abstract service spec, functions, package), and also 7.3.3 (end-to-end protocol diagrams), plus 4.4 SSI LAST-HOP SERVICE , Sec 4.3.2, and at other points.
