I agree, Gian Paolo. The DSG has the potential to be an important platform for standardized international cooperation in space.

Dear Margerita,
Dear All,
after a discussion with Mario, it look that it may be good having an agenda item for our next meeting in Gaithersburg to address how "International Deep Space Interoperability Standards" can impact CCSDS activities (not only for SLS Area, of course).

Best regards

Gian Paolo

Dear All,
I would like to inform you about an ongoing work for "International Deep Space Interoperability Standards" to support the future Deep Space Gateway (DSG)..
A number of draft standards are provided at https://www.internationaldeepspacestandards.com/ .
The have been collaboratively prepared by "International Space Station Partner Agencies" i.e. NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA) with the goal of defining interfaces and environments to facilitate cooperative deep space exploration endeavors. These draft standards focus on topics prioritized in this early phase of exploration planning and are not intended to dictate design features beyond the interfaces.

With respect to the SLS Area the most interesting standard in preparation is the one about Communications.
The Communications standard defines the functional, interface and performance standards necessary to support interoperable and compatible communications between spacecraft, ground infrastructure, other space and surface vehicles. The International Communication System Interoperability Standards (ICSIS) is available at https://www.internationaldeepspacestandards.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/45/2018/02/Comm_020918_R2.pdf

As mentioned above, the draft standards are not intended to dictate design features beyond the interfaces and can be regarded as standards defining which standards shall be supported (sorry for the pun).
As such, it will not be a big surprise for you the fact that most of the documents listed in section 2.1 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS are CCSDS Standards with a very high numbers of documents from our SLS Area.

So you/your WG may find interesting looking at the ICSIS document.

Best regards and Happy Easter to you all
I look forward to seeing you all in Gaithersburg.

Gian Paolo
