>Dear Holger and Gian Paolo,

>Attached is the CESG PID-response version of the
>candidate Forward Frame Red Book. In addition to
>the updated FF book itself, the attached zip
>file includes an annotated copy of Gian
>Paolo’s PID document, in which I responded to

>As we discussed at the Fall Workshop, I have
>re-oriented the discussion of the underlying
>production processes away from specific
>Functional Resources and toward the functions as
>they are identified in the actual CCSDS data
>link protocol and sync and channel coding
>specifications. I believe that this has several
>benefits: principal of which are that (a) the
>CCSDS reviewer/reader does not have to mentally
>bridge the translation from published function
>specifications to way that they are packaged in
>FRs (which, as Gian Paolo states, in some cases
>represent design decisions that are really
>tangential to the Forward Frame service itself),
>and (b) in particular it lets us avoid getting
>painted into a corner defining the functional
>resource that will represent the
>to-be-determined fixed-frame coding schemes for
>the forward link. The changes the result from
>this reorientation are most prominent in
>sections 2 and annexes G and I. Annex I, by the
>way, has been expanded to include explicit
>example configurations for both fixed and variable-length USLP frames.
>
>
>
>Also as agreed at the Fall Workshop, the
>normative sections of the book are now focused
>on support for CCSDS-compliant combinations of
>TC, AOS, and USLP space data link protocols, TC
>sync and channel coding, and the TBD subset of
>TM sync and channel coding functions. A few
>hints at possible wider applicability are
>sprinkled throughout as Notes, but what Gian
>Paolo calls “cheats” are mainly addressed by
>the new informative Annex J, Example Extended
>Use Cases for the Forward Frame Service.
