I think there are some other factors to consider here. The green book identifies communication geometry, RFI, estimated data rates/volumes and cost estimates. These may not all really have the same set scale of timelines -- it seems that certainly the cost estimate would be the least likely to be on the same scale timeline as communication geometry and RFI. Similarly the data rates/volumes might be integrated more on a per contact/tracking pass (although I will admit it's possible that there may be a need for more detailed planning), whereas the communication geometry would very likely be on a timescale that includes events within a tracking pass, especially for deep space missions. It is of course certainly quite feasible for the implementing software to filter the events by type without the overall plan definition. But then from the point of view of getting a good set of agency reviews together it may be easier for the reviewers to digest the different plan types given the notion that the different types of planning data are aggregated for their specific type as an overall property of the data format.
Best regards,
-Erik

Hi JP,
I tend to agree with you, currently there is redundancy of information between the provisonalPlanType in the ProvisonalPlanHeader Class and the eventType in the Event Class and this should be removed. Leaving the definition of type at the Event level is the more flexible approach I think, but lets see what the rest of the working group think.
Cheers for now,
Colin

Good afternoon Colin,
My thought regarding the ProvisionalPlanType is that if you get rid of it then you allow for a provisional plan to include events of different eventtypes.
This allows users to exchange multiple types of planning aids for the same time frame under one ProvisionalPlan. So you can submit a complete "set"
of planning aids this way. It is a similar approach as the Navigation Data Message (NDM), which was created in part to allow the grouping of various types of Nav data under one message (nothing to do with planning aids but using it as an example/analogy).
I won't be able to dial in to todays meetings but email me if you have any questions regarding this comments.
Best Regards,
