Dear SLP WG,
CESG has decided that the USLP SCID Extension can proceed including adding both Source and Destination SCIDs into the new USLP Transfer Frame Secondary Header.
Clemens Heese, SLS AD, has recommended we address the following points in making the decision to choose either a 32-bit Version-4 or a 64-bit Version-4 SCID.
[Clemens] Indeed, you can go ahead. There were some points that came up in the CESG discussion on Oct 26:
1. The secondary header decision on 32b/64b must follow a logic and you need to provide a justification.
2. Source, destination fields should be rather considered like MAC addresses. We should follow a layer logic and keep a clean layer structure.
I would ask you to also have a discussion with "users" of the new source destination fields in CCSDS, so that they are aware and all their needs are covered. Their feedback should feed into the secondary header structure.
[Greg] I have already reached out to the CSS area (Barkley/Dreihahn) and received their input. I have attached a draft text proposal containing a USLP Transfer Frame Secondary Header Format for your consideration. I'd like you all to consider the pros and cons for going with 32-bits vs 64-bits. At the telecon we need to decide on which size we as a WG recommend to CCSDS for adoption in USLP and the rationale to support the decision.
Thanks much,
Greg
