Dear SLP,

Attached is a word document from Enrico Vassallo asking that you reply back to me if you have any comments concerning the RID resolutions on the Physical Layer Prox-1 Blue book in 5-year review that impacts any of the Prox-1 Data Link Layer Blue book.

My review has yielded the following remarks:

Item 1: Prefer the second option. Rationale – prefer to keep titles of sections, diagrams, tables, etc as short as possible and not be verbose. Therefore clarifying upfront in the definitions section that the word "forward" is an abreviation in these documents for "forward link" and visa versa for "return" should provide ample guidance to the user.

Item 2: Agree with Enrico's RID resolution here.

Item 3: Agree with the RID resolution, but change the phrase "being provided" to "provided". Rationale: It is verbose.

Item 4: Agree with the RID resolution, but remember I am a "bloody colonist".

Item 5: Agree with the RID resolution, but also change the word, "communications" to "communication" as in the previous RID. Let's be consistent.

Item 6: Agree with Enrico's RID resolution and text here.

Items 7,8,9, 10: Not part of SLP purview – no comment.

please find attached the RFM WG disposition of the above mentioned RIDs. Given that we are trying to achieve consistency among the 3 books, I am kindly asking you to review our proposals within your WGs and to let us know if these changes are possible for the 3 books. I believe that the mutual issues are limited to the first two RIDs (ESA-GPC-101 and 102) but please do not hesitate to check also the others for areas of cross interest.

Please also let us know if any of the RIDs assigned to your groups may have an impact on our book.

To avoid avalanche effects on emails, please do not ask your WG members to send their individual comments to the RFM WG but collect them all and send us one consolidated input per WG,

Once agreement on all items is reached, we will edit the PL book and submit to the Editor.

Fall 2012 WG Meeting Registration Open
Hosted by NASA, the CCSDS Fall 2012 technical meeting series will be held at the Cleveland Renaissance Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio, USA from 15-18 October 2012.

As always, registration is free, but YOU MUST REGISTER in order to attend any of the meetings. Registration will close 7 days before the meeting.  We encourage you to register early, because we need head counts for some events.

The principal requirement for participating is that you must register and must indicate precisely which meetings you wish to attend. Total attendance is limited by the size of the facility and late registrants cannot be guaranteed a place. Please register on-line at http://public.ccsds.org/meetings/2012Fall/2012FallReg.aspx  Once registered your CCSDS space agency will have up to 5 days to reject your registration, so please use caution when making reservations that have cancellation penalties within the next 5 days. NOTE: NASA has been directed by congress to enforce some new rules and regulations about *not* providing food for meetings. The result of this is that these meetings NASA cannot provide coffee/refreshments or meals as we have in the past. Further, NASA personnel *and NASA contractor personnel* cannot even actively ask other organizations (sponsors) if they would be willing to sponsor such coffee/refreshments. Until these rules change again, this will be the norm for all future NASA-hosted meetings. However, our situation for the Cleveland meetings is still OK. At our Renaissance hotel meeting location, there is a “mall food court” for both coffee and lunch, which is inside the same building, and a few minutes from the meeting rooms. We are sorry for this limitation, but hopefully the other positive accommodations for this meeting will make up for it.

Planning for Spring 2013 CCSDS Meetings
We are currently planning the CCSDS Spring 2013 meetings that will be held in France from 8-11 April 2013. We want to prepare the needed letters of invitation for April 2013 and hand them to the attendees at the Cleveland meeting next month.   If you are planning to travel to France for the Spring 2013 meeting and you require any sort of invitation letter to facilitate your travel arrangements, please contact the CCSDS Secretariat <secretariat at mailman.ccsds.org<mailto:secretariat at mailman.ccsds.org>> at your earliest convenience so that we can prepare the letter for delivery to you in Cleveland, or by mail if you will not be in Cleveland. Please note that it is the responsibility of the traveler to research and communicate to us any particular requirements that we will need to incorporate into your letter of invitation. We are not familiar with the requirements of the many countries from which CCSDS experts may be departing.

Dress for the Plenary meeting is Business Casual.

Dear SLP,

Attached please find a copy of 3 RIDs submitted by ESA on the Prox-1 Data Link Layer Book.

Please be ready to discuss RID resolutions to them at our meeting in Cleveland on Tuesday, Oct 16, 2012.

My preference for these RIDs are as follows:

1) ESA-GPC-001 Rd precise computation

My preference: Rewrite the equation as: Rd = 1024/2112 * Rc

Rationale: We avoid the need to express the fraction as a repeating decimal (left to the computer)

2) ESA-GPC-002  Serial data output

My Preference: Agreed. Remove the word "serial" since this word suggest a specific implementation.

3) ESA-GPC-003 Serial coded symbols

My Preference: Agreed. Remove the word "serial" since this word suggest a specific implementation.
