[SLS-CC] Spring meeting location change

Dear C&S WG members,

I hope you all received Amber’s message yesterday, included below, that says that the location of the CCSDS meetings has changed.  My understanding is that student strikes have disrupted access to the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.  I believe a settlement was reached on Monday, May 18, but unrest continues, and the CCSDS organizers evidently decided yesterday that they had to change plans.

The new location is the Centro Residencial de Oportunidades Educativas de Mayagüez (CROEM), which is a selective private high school located about 9 km east of Mayagüez.  For those with rental cars, this is about an 18 minute drive to the very east end of highway 349.  For those without, I believe CCSDS is trying to coordinate a shuttle that will depart from the northwest corner of the Plaza Cristobal Colon, which is the central plaza of Mayagüez.

CROEM is not a big place, so if one can get there, I’m assuming that it won’t be hard to get directions and figure out where to go from there.  My understanding is that Monday’s meeting will be in the Teatro CROEM, the first large building on the left side of the road, just past the main entrance.  The Working Group meetings will be in the CROEM main lecture building, which is the next large building on the right side of the road.  Lunches will be served in the last building at the end of the road.

By the way, a couple days ago, I said something about downloading CleverShare so that one can access the wireless network and use the meeting room presentation systems.  Now I think that’s become irrelevant.  We’ll have to figure out the local technology when we arrive.

Dear CCSDS Community,

We are writing with an important and time‑sensitive update regarding the location of the CCSDS Spring 2026 Technical Plenary. Due to unexpected student protests, the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez campus is now closed. As a result, all Spring Meeting activities have been relocated to The Residential Center of Educational Opportunities of Mayagüez (CROEM), approximately 20 minutes from our original venue. The location is ~12 min drive from those who are staying in downtown hotels and ~20 min drive for those staying at Holiday Inn.

Because many of you are traveling across multiple time zones and may receive this message on Friday, we ask that you review these updates carefully and continue monitoring your email throughout the weekend for any additional notices or adjustments, and feel free to forward/share this message with your colleagues in attendance (spread the word).

Registration Desk: The registration desk will be located near the entrance of the CROEM Theater on Monday morning. Volunteers and staff will be onsite to help direct participants upon arrival.

VIRTUAL PARTICIPATION Microsoft Teams credentials and virtual meeting links will be distributed separately. Remote participants should remain flexible, as minor schedule or room adjustments may occur throughout the week.

Starting Tuesday, all technical sessions and breakout meetings will take place at the CROEM Main Lecture Building. Lunch and networking activities will be held at the designated CROEM Lunch Area.
