Dear Andrea, dear all,

It would be great if the ESA informative presentation on S-Band proximity-1 could be made: no objection from CNES!

By the way, we are in a rush for our informative input "Use of LDPC optical for RF links". Could we deliver it on wednesday evening (the 17th of april), if there is no objection of having CNES making a presentation on this subject?

Have a nice day; Best regards

Jean-Luc

Objet : Re: [SLS-CC] C&S - ESA ESTEC participation in Spring 2024

Dear all,
I am writing for some updates about the ESA ESTEC participation in CCSDS, for the part concerning our WG.

After several internal iterations, ESA ESTEC was able to increase partially the budget for standardization activities, and secure a ticket for Nicola's attendance to Spring 2024 meeting and the related manpower.
However, given the last minute, Nicola won't be able to fulfil the AIs for the S-Band proximity-1.

For partially recover the situation, I was still asked if I can allow at least one presentation for joint CS/SLP/RFM, mostly status update of S-Band proximity-1 and future work to be carried out.
Since this announcement is well beyond deadline, I can let it only as informative input (e.g., brainstorming, but cannot be subject to WG resolutions or agreements), and pending WG consensus.

In this respect, I poll the WG: Can you let me know, by April 19th, if there is any objection in having the ESA informative presentation on S-Band proximity-1?
If no objections, I will adapt the final Agenda accordingly.

Please finally notice that although ESTEC is trying to recover the lack of manpower for standardization activities, this will anyway delay the S-Band proximity-1 project in CCSDS.
For this reason, I will still keep the Agenda item for discussing the issue and possible fallbacks.

Subject: [SLS-CC] C&S - Spring 2024 agenda - please read

Dear all,
Based on the input announcement, you can find the list of presentations that will be given this Spring meeting.
In the following days I will prepare the Agenda accordingly. Please let me know if I should have missed anything.

Please don't forget to send the final version of your input by no later than April 12th , COB

On top of this, I have to raise a major issue.
ESA ESTEC had to officially report that this year there was a severe budget cut for supporting CCSDS activities and attend the Spring meeting, and potentially also the next Fall meeting.
This already impacted our WG activities: namely, Nicola M./ESA attendance to Spring 2024 was not approved by ESA on-time, and with that, Nicola will be unable to complete his actions of presenting an update for the S-Band Proximity-1 blue books. This clearly will delay our WGs' activities for the S-Band proximity-1.

In my role of Chair (that shall be balanced with my other role of ESA ambassador), I am in the opinion that we need to dedicate an Agenda Item for discussing the issue, possible fallbacks, and decide if the WG should report it formally to SLS AD/CESG for possibly reaching CMC.
