Dear Clément,

Thank you for the clarification. Just for common understanding when you say “specifying codes and space link protocols” do you mean “identifying”? A last minor detail, the schedule table presented at the end of page 2 seems till exceeding the planned duration of 12 months-

Regards,

Tomaso

Dear all,

Thank you Massimo for the feedback and Tomaso for the questions.

The project is to update the BB to allow use of TM, AOS and USLP protocols with 131.3-B-1 on ground-to-space, space-to-space and space-to-ground links. Today the BB allows use of TM and AOS on space-to-ground links. I have removed the mention of AOS in the chapter 2 to avoid the misunderstanding as it is induced that existing compatible protocols with 131.3-B-1 will still fully be with it after editing.

The technical work will consist in adding a chapter to precise this update and the considered codes, basically all the DVB-S2 MODCOD. There will be no new codes so no interoperability tests needed.
It is just editing work indeed for a duration of 12 months and not 17 as indicated it was a mistake.

I hope I have answered your questions. Don’t hesitate if you have some more.

Kind regards

Dear all,

following the deadline, I've received comments only from DLR (email from Tomaso de Cola, 06 June), that I copied herein for your convenience:

###############################################################################################################################################

Dear Massimo,

Just few comments from my side:

•I understand the project is about the extension of the present 131.3-B-1 to allow interworking of DVB-S2 with USLP and AOS. However, the description refers only to USLP. Similarly, the description provided in Annex 2 points only to USLP and generically about space-to-space and ground-to-space links. I’d suggest to explicitly mention AOS too.

• In general from the purpose and the description of the project, it is not fully clear to me which technical work is planned here. Is it just about adding a chapter about specifying the codes (as I read from the description)? As such I understand, that new codes other than those of the ETSI DVB-S2 specification will be considered in this new chapter. Then, I also read that this new chapter will also specify the space link protocols. What does it mean exactly? Apparently I see something more than just “editing work”, probably requiring validation through interoperability testing (i.e. with the typical 2 prototypes). Why isn’t it the case?

• In the section dedicated to the schedule, I read October 2019-October 2020, i.e. 12 months. However, immediately below it is stated “time to complete 17 months”.

Thank you in advance for the clarifications/comments to my doubts.

Best Regards,

Tomaso

Dear colleagues,

please find a concept paper provided by CNES, for the extension of CCSDS 131.3-B-1 to ground-space and space-space links, and for the use of USLP.
Your comments, if any, are expected by 18 June (2 weeks), before I proceed with requesting the resolution for the project approval.

Best regards,
Massimo
