Hello Walter and Rodney,

Good to hear from you! Sorry for the delay – we had our agency-wide DTN meetings all last week at HQ, so have been immersed in those activities.

We are back at GRC, and have scheduled tomorrow some time to talk through our various testing activities to identify gaps, and refine our gameplan following the HQ sessions.

Could we plan to talk later in the week, perhaps on Thursday or Friday to talk about potential camera sources and encoders we could incorporate?

Thank you!

Regards,
Daniel

I have sent Daniel an email asking what they need. Our bad, Sandy & I had all intentions of doing this last week but were overcome by events.

Subject: RE: [EXTERNAL] [BULK] [Sis-mia] Edge cases for hardware encoder testing

Thank you, Rodney. These test points are very helpful. Nadia and Ethan have been working in the lab, and we are confident we could start testing the H264 @30 with hardware encoding with little change to our current setup. They have also added scripts to automate the testbed configurations, so making changes will be very straightforward in the future. They have also added the capability to stream content directly from YouTube, in addition to our file transfer and camera streaming capability. For the H265 points, we will likely need to make some adjustments to the streaming code to accommodate the memory requirements, which should take a few weeks.

There are a couple areas where we could use some assistance.

  * Since our lab camera tops out at 30fps, we would be interested in borrowing one to accomplish the 60fps test points.
  * We are planning on using the Nvidia Jetson Orin for the hardware encoding/decoding. However if there is alternate encoding hardware available we could also use, we would be interested in that as well for the purpose of comparing results, especially if it was more representative of s/c subsystems.
  * Up to this point we have not evaluated GOP as a performance metric, do you have any recommended code or process for that?

Thank you, and we’d be happy to talk through things with you as we endeavor to conduct these tests. As well, beyond these tests we are VERY interested in improving our LunaNet testbed to conduct higher fidelity daily con-ops representative of Gateway-esque operations. We’d love to learn from you how to improve our testbed to become more relevant and useful to the human spaceflight community, and help answer DTN lunar infusion questions. For these particular test points, if would be great to eventually publish our performance findings within the context of emulated lunar operations.

Have a great holiday!

Regards,
Daniel
