Hi Jonathan,

Thank you for sharing so quickly a version of the orange book!

Concerning the level of detail for the prototyping annex, the CCSDS yellow book on organizazion and process states that (I've underlined the part interesting for us here):

As a general rule, prior to publication at least one hardware or software prototype (or other implementation) must exist that demonstrates and exercises all of the options and features of the specification in an operationally relevant environment, either real
or simulated. The WG chair shall assure that the specific implementations that qualify the specification for CCSDS experimental status are documented in an annex to the specification; that documentation shall include clear statements about support for each of the
individual options and features of the specification. If patented or otherwise controlled technology is required for the implementation, it must be demonstrated that the licensing process and fees are reasonable and non-discriminatory.

You can find a recent example of orange book with such an annex here<https://public.ccsds.org/Pubs/922x27o1.pdf> (Annex I) or also here<https://public.ccsds.org/Pubs/131x5o1.pdf> (Annex C). As you can see they do not go too deep in detail, it is more a confirmation about the fact such a prototype exists and the features of the experimental specification are supported. This latter point has to be somehow evidenced. As such, testing results are not really necessary unless you have some exemplary results to be dropped there.

Hope it help,

Tomaso

Subject: [Sis-dtn] BPv7 Orange Book Draft

Hey Bob,

Based on our discussions today, I've uploaded the first draft BPv7 Orange Book to CWE:
https://cwe.ccsds.org/sis/docs/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsis%2Fdocs%2FSIS%2DDTN%2FDraft%20Documents%2FBPv7%20for%20CCSDS%2FOrange%20Book%20Draft&FolderCTID=0x012000050F193BA5186E4497F14E97DBA90814&View=%7B679CC4EC%2D20EF%2D4AB6%2D9FF7%2DD851E088D6B8%7D<https://cwe.ccsds.org/sis/docs/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2Fsis%2Fdocs%2FSIS-DTN%2FDraft%20Documents%2FBPv7%20for%20CCSDS%2FOrange%20Book%20Draft&FolderCTID=0x012000050F193BA5186E4497F14E97DBA90814&View=%7B679CC4EC-20EF-4AB6-9FF7-D851E088D6B8%7D>

As discussed, Annex H will serve as summary of the DTN implementations that have tested the functionality of BPv7 capabilities.
Will a short (1-page max) summary per implementation (those who wish to participate) suffice (e.g., BPv7 PICS items supported/test results)?

Please let me know if you need anything further.

Thanks,
Jonathan
