The 1st International Workshop on Ground Station Network
<http://www.unisec.jp/gsn/symposium_e.html>http://www.unisec.jp/gsn/symposium_e.html
July 18-19, Hongo campus, Tokyo. Abstracts close 31 May (Tokyo time -
30 May most other places...)

has a focus on getting universities to cooperate and interconnect
ground stations across the Internet-- though having multiple
independent satellites use multiple independent ground stations
requires common wireless communications -- cubesats typically talk
2400/9600bps in amateur bands, but there's not much commonality in
link design/channel use otherwise. (If there was a common standard
this would be a good thing, and you could build a business model just
owning a ground station servicing multiple satellites and their
passes and throwing packets across the Internet from your ground
station. But the point of Cubesats is students designing things from
scratch, not taking things off the shelf.)

This seems to be setting up a sort-of Japanese equivalent to the
Space Internet Workshop series; same presentation focus. SIW-5 is
still coming in September:
