Keith,
I'm sorry I never got through the whole book. I see in your new edition
that a few of my comments were addressed ( you got rid of services....I had
lots there!). Here are some comments, which I know are late and you can
ignore if you so choose.
A couple of general comments:
- There are some "we" or "first person" in the document that I think
should be removed/reworded (i.e. 3.1.1)
- The document is pretty heavy on detail, which is nice in one way, but
for a Green Book I think there's too much. You're also giving solutions,
i.e. DiffServ. IPSec, etc., where I think that info is more suitable in a
Recommendation (Red/Blue) or Recommended Practice (Magenta). There's so
much information, I found it hard to look at the simple picture.
Some specific comments:
Section 1.6 Scope - right after FIgure 4. The word "prescribed", should
probably be "recommended".
Section 3.6 is open-ended.... Maybe it was Microsoft, but the latter half
of the paragraph seems to be missing.
Section 4.3 paragraph 2. If you are referring to the QoS parameter in the
frame header, I would argue that this is insufficient for onboard
traffic. Could possibly be used in conjunction with other QoS scheme, not
good enough on its own.
4.3 last paragraph. The example I think is weak. I better one would be an
app using 1553 to get data from a sensor, where it would be inefficient to
go through a network.
Section 4.4.1 last paragraph - does using SCPS through network-layer
gateways require any type of custom code/support?
Section 4.6.3 What is NASA's security policy? If it does not include
IPSec, does that mean we can never conform to IPv6?
