From peter.m.shames at jpl.nasa.gov Fri Nov 7 22:36:33 2014 From: peter.m.shames at jpl.nasa.gov (Shames, Peter M (312B)) Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2014 22:36:33 +0000 Subject: [SEA-XSG] Materials for discussion at the XSG SIG, Friday, 14 Nov, 0845-1030 Message-ID: Dear XSG Colleagues, We have several items to discuss at the upcoming meeting. The primary topics are these: 1) The status of the CCSDS namespace RFC & related policy 2) The status of the actual XML Guidelines 3) How we can handle the XML SIG and SSG during the CCSDS meeting 4) A related topic of the things we want to do with the CCSDS Glossary I have attached the updated versions of the CCSDS Namespace RFC and the related Namespace policy. These are essentially the same documents we reviewed before, except that the RFC has had the dates updated and the CCSDS Namespace Policy has been edited to reflect recent CESG discussions and to clean up some of the terminology. I used Track Changes, so you can see what has changed from the previous version. I would really like to get these items "off the dime" and published right after this meeting if we can get agreement. I am also working on a proposed approach for an XML schema guideline. It leverages both the ESA XML Guideline and a highly regarded Google Guideline. I do not have this ready yet, but you will have it in your hands no later than Sunday night, 10 Nov. I have used some of my scarce resources to get someone from JPL to help with the CCSDS Gloassry -> ontology project. I expect to discuss this in detail in the SEA System Architecture BoF which is where I think we should be working this specific issue. I have attached the current draft here for your reference. My thinking is that this will indeed become a SANA registry, but that it may need some different support and update policies than the other registries. We will discuss that on next Friday as well. The second presentation is the list of other items that the CESG has brought to the attention of the CMC. The files include the working notes, an analysis of the XML Guidelines issues (separate from the XML namespace), and the updated versions of the CCSDS XML Namespace RFC and the XML Namespace guidelines. These may all be found here: http://cwe.ccsds.org/sea/docs/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2fsea%2fdocs%2fSEA-XSG%2fMeeting%20Materials%2f2014%2fFall%202014%20London&FolderCTID=&View={50B434A7-BB62-4E03-A971-45271E7C0B86} The two XML namespace documens have been sent to Marc Blanchet. He has the originals and is on the hook to produce the edits to these, ready for submission to the CESG & CMC, by 5 Dec 2014. Once these edits are done we will do the following: 1. Send the docs to the CESG with a recommendation that they be submitted to the IETF for their approval 2. Once this is done send the docs to the CMC for approval 3. Once that is done, Marc will forward the docs to the IETF for their approval and publication 4. That will, once accomplished, register the CCSDS namespace in the Internet During the CESG and CMC discussions I proposed closing the XML SIG and moving the last topic, that of CCSDS XML Guidelines, to the SEA System Architecture WG (SAWG) that is now proposed to be re-started. That technical topic is probably better dealt with in a standing working group than in a SIG that gets scant attention from its members. The CESG & CMC agreed that the XML guidelines work was better handled in a full WG, but asked that the XSG SIG be preserved as what will be effectively a CCSDS XML expert group that will monitor all XML technical and policy changes. Accordingly I will send a Resolution to the CESG that the XML SIG be re-chartered to include only the CCSDS XML Namespace project and to be re-cast as a standing SIG that will monitor all of the CCSDS XML technical and policy work. I see the main role of the SIG to provide coordination across the several WG that have XML interests. I believe that we can do that work using a combination of email echanges and telecons. If any of you have issues or concerns with this approach please voice them now. Best regards and good wishes for a happy holiday season. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
