Dear SEA-SA colleagues,

You will already have seen that the upcoming CCSDS face-to-face meetings are cancelled. There is not yet a centralized plan, but it is pretty clear that the best that we can hope to do is to take advantage of the fact that all of you have set aside time for these meetings and are willing to work with us to schedule some remote working sessions. I would like to hold daily working meetings via WebEx if that works for all of you. This approach has, I believe, been working for most of you, so that should continue to work. My own recommendation, if you can manage it, is to try and use the video along with audio. My own experience with this, over the last couple of years of working from home two days a week, is that when you do that it adds to the feeling of being connected to your colleagues.

I think the best we may be able to achieve is 2-3 hrs /day during what was otherwise planned to be a week of working meetings. Since we do not have the constraints of limited meeting rooms we may be able to stretch the meetings out over the whole week instead of just 1.5 days. Several of us at JPL discussed this last week and the general conclusion is that holding joint meetings may be a bit of a challenge. That said, I think it is worthwhile to try and reach out to the chairs of the WGs we would normally meet with and see if they would agree to schedule one joint session to address our mutual concerns. In our case that would be the SOIS and MOIMS WG, especially Jonathan Wilmot and Dan Smith.

We have already gotten some good review comments on the ASL draft doc from Dan Smith and I will pass them along to you shortly.

I believe that there are three primary topics for us to work on:

  1. Wrapping up the ASL document and dealing with any remnant issues. Since this GB has not yet been sent out to the CESG we are dependent on the Chief Technical Editor. I asked when that might occur and was told in the next tranche of docs dropped for CESG review. Likely this week.
  2. Discuss the proposed revisions to the Reference Architecture for Space Data Systems (RASDS) document, CCSDS 311.0-M-1. This would make updates based on what we learned in doing the ASL and SCCS-ADD docs, adding a Service viewpoint, improving the Information and Functional viewpoints, and also adding an annex documenting how to use this methodology with an MBSE / SysML representation style.
  3. Discuss the proposed joint work with the TC20/SC14 to add viewpoints that meet their needs. This would encompass the Service viewpoint and other changes, but also add a new Operations viewpoint, augment the Enterprise viewpoint, and add a new Physical / structural viewpoint.

Check with me if you have any questions, and let me know if there is anything I can do to help. For instance, if you do not have WebEx or the equivalent I may be able to help you schedule WebEx sessions.

Best regards, and take care, Peter
