Dear CCSDS System Architecture WG colleagues,
I have just uploaded to the CCSDS CWE web site the updated information that all those present reviewed and edited during the recent working meetings. There are several documents out on the CWE in the SEA-SA Meeting Materials folder for Fall 2014. Those may be found here:
http://cwe.ccsds.org/sea/docs/Forms/AllItems.aspx?RootFolder=%2fsea%2fdocs%2fSEA-SA%2fMeeting%20Materials%2f2014%2fFall%202014%20London&FolderCTID=&View={50B434A7-BB62-4E03-A971-45271E7C0B86}
If any of you have other materials that you presented (Serge and Mike come to mind) please login to the CWE and upload them so we all have access. Other working materials may also be uploaded.
During the CCSDS Engineering Steerring Group (CESG) and Management Council (CMC) meetings the week following the working meetings the approach that we proposed got very good support. Whether it gets a commitment of resources from the various agencies and other entities remains to be seen, but each of you has a role to play in helping to move this ahead. If you believe in the work please find a way to contribute, even if it is ust to read and comment on the materials that others are producing. If you can find, or lobby for, the resources to actively contribute that would be even better.
There are several related topics that are in discussion. These are:
* CCSDS Reference Architecture for CMC
* RASDS refresh, SysML/UML or not
* CCSDS ontology (terms, definition, and relationships; glossary revision)
* CCSDS XML standards (use terms from ontology)
The attached presentation is an overview of this work, and there are more detailled presentations on each topic in that CWE folder. Both the CESG and the CMC are supportive of this work and realize its relevance to CCSDS. Now it is up to us to define and propose a work plan that can carry out these tasks . I'll be proposing a telecon in mid December and will send out a draft of a WG charter prior to that. If there are others in your organizations who wish to particpate please send them the info about how to join.
We have the following steps to take in the near term:
1. Discuss the overall work plan
2. Define a charter for the work including discussion of resources
3. Produce a modest concept paper to describe the technical aspects of the work (material like the attached presentation)
4. Draft a liaison memo between the CCSDS (ISO/TC 20/SC 13) and the ISO/TC 20/SC 14 - Space systems and operations. This will need to be reviewed and agreed by the CESG and CMC and then sent to the ISO/TC 20/SC 14 leadership
5. Request that the SAWG be restarted to accomplish this work plan
If you have thoughts about this work, contributions you wish to make, or other feedback please send it to this list.
Thanks, and have a great holiday season, ine whatever country and style you celebrate it.
Regards, Peter Shames
