Subject: RE: TraCSS Listening Session
I wanted to highlight that the attached document and your presentation had mischaracterized a few of the standards, because:
1. the OCM is designed to replace in their entirety the OEM, OPM, and OMM
* While the OCM may not be widely supported just yet, there are many reasons for using the OCM when it is supported, and deprecating the OEM, OPM, and OMM.
* There are many reference frames, timing systems, element sets, and covariance systems that the OEM, OPM, and OMM do not support.
2. There were a number of standards, as characterized in the second attachment, that I identified to OSC as being potentially useful (in pink), that had been proposed (FDM and NCM), that are in active development (in yellow), or published (in green). But the paper that you’d provided us a link to in the chat indicated that many of the pink messages were in active development, which is not the case. You may wish to consider revising your briefing and document to reflect this so that people don’t get the wrong impression of the state of development. (OSC may wish to put its “muscle” behind discussing with CCSDS, perhaps at the April meeting that David kindly invited you to attend, any of the “pink” standards that OSC feels are of particular importance for development, if such leap to mind.
Thanks,
Dan
