Nestor
these are the IBM people I am working with on the CASPAR project - under which the PDS, mentioned in the email, has been developed. They are well aquainted with the OAIS, XFDU and RAC work.

Interesting reply from our IBM customer. They plan to make the binaries
public. Also the topic is data archive, so I'm copying John Garrett on
this. You guys might want to invite them to look at your DAI or RAC
material.
Do you guys think I should say that CCSDS agencies would be interested in
this, hence we would like that posted on our website?

Dear Mike,
Thanks for your prompt reply.
Our software, Preservation DataStores (PDS), is not an XML product. In
fact, it is not a product at all, but rather a prototype: PDS is a storage
component for supporting long-term digital preservation. We have chosen
XFDU as the default format for information packages ingested to the
preservation system. More information is available at our home page:
http://www.haifa.il.ibm.com/projects/storage/datastores/index.html.
We plan to make the prototype binaries available to the public later on
this year (hence my copyright concerns). If you think this may interest
CCSDS agencies, we will gladly post information about PDS upon publishing
the software.
Shahar.

Dear Shahar,
All of our standards are in the public domain and we place no constraints
on their use. Nor do we place any constraints on any organization that
wishes to use them to develop private or open source products that comply
with them. So you're "good to go" to use them as you need.
We have a few requests, however:
Where appropriate, please acknowledge the use of the CCSDS standard.
Since your organization is developing CCSDS compliant products, perhaps
you
could register IBM (or your department) as a commercial affiliate of CCSDS
on our website?
If your product is of interest to CCSDS agencies, perhaps you could have
its information posted on the CCSDS product page?
http://public.ccsds.org/implementations/products/products.aspx
Actually, I think we would probably need to create a new category for your
product (XML products or something like that) on our website. But we
would
be willing to do that, if you're interested in posting the information
there.
Those are our suggestions.
Will your product be a private product for sale, or can it be freely
available (code or binary) to CCSDS agencies, or the public in general?
Thanks for your interest in CCSDS standards.

Hello,
I work for IBM Corp. I have written some code for generating XML instances
conforming to the XFDU XML schema. I wish to distribute this code, or its
binaries, under IBM's name.
I would like to confirm with you that I am allowed to do so under the XFDU
schema license (that is, assuming there is such a license).
It is worth mentioning that I have neither made any changes to the schema,
nor I am distributing your schema along with my software - I'm just
creating XML documents that validate against the schema.
Best regards,
Shahar Ronen,
