Hi everyone,
FYI. Some personal notes, maybe incomplete, on the meeting of this
afternoon:
(A) stands for action, (D) for decision and (C) a comment
- Scheduling Falls Meeting
o (C) CNES proposed to schedule the meeting from the 5th to 9th of
December 2005 at CNES (Toulouse - France)
o (A) CNES to invite the IPR/DAI WGs via e-mail
- XML Namespace and Versioning Issue Concept :
o (C) Discussion supported by the Power Point document submitted by
NASA (i.e. iprtconxnsver0615.ppt)
o (A) A discussion regarding the use of substitutionGroup should be
planned (within the next weeks)
o (C) Use URN is preferable instead of URL for namespaces (see RFC 5
or 6)
o (A) NASA to post on http://sindbad.gsfc.nasa.gov
<http://sindbad.gsfc.nasa.gov/> sever, the documents dealing with the RFC
specifying namespace rulings
o (A) A telecon addressing the namespace issues should be organized
within two weeks (NASA to invite the attendees via e-mails)
o (C) XML 1.1 recommends the use of IRI for namespaces instead of URI
- ESA/CNES XFDU Java/C++ Wrapper
o (C) XFDU Java/C++ Wrapper 1.0 beta 4 has been issued (
http://www.gael.fr/xfdu ); further versions should be released on at least a
monthly basis until October
o (C) The C++ Wrapper requires the same environment as for Java API
o (C) The C++ Wrapper is being used for developing a SAFE I/O API and
SAFE translators in the framework of ESA project
o (A) A NASA group would be interested in using the ESA C++ Wrapper
(NASA to send the contact to ESA/GAEL)
o (C) The Java API is being used for the development of an XFDU
viewer/editor in the framework of CNES project
o (C) ESA/GAEL is to issue a new version of the SAFE specifications
on June 27; this version dedicated to reviewers should help in understanding
the best current practices observed during SAFE development; meanwhile, the
SAFE I/O library distribution (i.e. http://www.gael.fr/safe ) includes XML
Schemas that illustrate these BCPs
o ESA/GAEL issues regarding XFDU XML Schema
* (C) Discussion supported by an e-mail submitted by GAEL
recapitulating the change requests
* (D) Ok for new specificationVersion element in lieu of specVersion
attribute
* (D) Ok for relaxing the xmlDataType wildcard from strict to
lax to enable further restrictions
* (A) GAEL reminds that local types prevent further specializations
(i.e. XML Schema restrictions). XFDU Specializations are, however, critical
for controlling and constraining XFDU instances in operational environments.
GAEL proposed to add environmentInfoType, specificationVersionType and
versionType as global types. NASA to investigate case by case if these types
should become global.
* (C) GAEL informs that, due to inconsistent W3C and OGC target
namespaces of Xlink schemas, it is currently not possible to wrap GML data
or metadata object without prior modification of one of the imported schemas
* (D) Xlink import will reference the W3Cs XML Schema and its
corresponding target namespace
o (A) environmentInfo maxOccurs to be limited to 1
o (A) New XFDU XML Schema release on next week (NASA)
o (D) Next technical telecon on 13rd July 2005
- Overview of XML Best Practices Matrix
o (C) Discussion supported by a Word document (i.e.
bestpracticematrix0613.doc) in output of a study performed by NASA
o (D) The matrix entries should be addressed in detail during the
next technical telecon planned on July 13, 2005
Best regards
Stéphane
