Call for papers for the SH04 Special Session at the Spring 2005 AGU.
Papers are solicited for a special SH Session SH04 cosponsored under SA, SM
and Atmospheric Sciences:
SH04: Space Physics Research Environment: Meeting the Challenges of
Integrating Disparate Data Systems
This is an area of particular interest to the data system community as well
as the VO community because of the need to deal with diverse and widely
distributed data sets. Abstracts are due electronically by Feb. 10, 2005 at
2359 UT and can be submitted at
http://www.agu.org/meetings/sm05/?content=program

Description:
The space science data analysis and modeling community has identified as a
critical challenge the development of interoperable systems for data and
model-result interchange. This need is particularly acute in the data
analysis community where disparate data sets, characterized by different
locations and modes of operation, yield data that are corroborative and
collaborative in nature. A key area that requires attention is that of
providing a flexible and efficient means to search through data sets that
span instruments, investigations, and/or disciplines. There have been
important advances in capabilities, largely driven by the commercial and
applications sectors, of which the space physics community can take
advantage. This session will bring the latest developments and ideas, as
well as the achievements and lessons-learned from current programs, to the
scientific audience. We seek talks on emerging systems and services, ones
that identify the scientific, technical and programmatic data challenges
facing the space physics community, and those that describe the emerging
architectural and technical solutions with particular emphasis on their
application to problems in the space sciences.
