Dear CCSDS team,

What follows is disappointing news, and I am not sure if each of you has heard this yet.  The IND management has decided to clamp down on overseas travel this year and many of you, unfortunately, have been affected by this.  Instead of allowing the usual criteria for travel to be used, as has been the case for years, only those members of the team who have CCSDS “leadership” positions are being allowed to travel.  This means: CMC, CESG, and/or WG Chairs & Deputies only.

Both Sami and I fought long and hard for those of you who are “just” document editors or prototype developers to be included, but this was disallowed.  As a result, all of you who are in that situation will have to ask your WG chairs to schedule your presentations or discussions for those the parts of the meeting where you can reasonably be asked to be present.  With a 9 hour difference to the Hague I am assuming that means your participation could start as early as 0500 (1400 in Europe) and last until 0900 (1800 in Europe).

Yes, I do know that this is a stretch, but it is something that several of us, myself included, regularly do for a number of overseas meetings.  So I’m not asking you to do anything that I haven’t done myself.

I’ll write to the CESG-All mailing list myself to ask for support for all of us.

Sorry that this has worked out in this way.  I find it really disappointing.
