Preview of discussions
OAIS CCSDS 650.0 - Reference Model for an Open Archival Information System (OAIS)
has completed its first CCSDS Review with a couple minor comments received. Due to issues between CCSDS and ISO, we are still awaiting our ISO review.
We expect publication as an ISO and CCSDS standard about 6-8 months after the ISO review starts.

ISO 16363 Audit Metrics CCSDS 652.0 - Requirements for Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories
The update has been submitted for CCSDS review and for CCSDS to submit to ISO for ISO review.

ISO 16919 Auditor Guidelines CCSDS 652.1 – Requirements for Bodies Providing Audit and Certification of Candidate Trustworthy Digital Repositories
This update was submitted to our Area’s Directors for approval to forward for CCSDS review. A few comments were received and we below they have been resolved and the document will soon be submitted for CCSDS review and for CCSDS to submit to ISO for ISO review.

IPELTU CCSDS 653.0 – Information Preservation Enabling Long-Term Use
This new document was submitted to our Area’s Directors for approval to forward for CCSDS review. A few comments were received and we below they have been resolved and the document will soon be submitted for CCSDS review and for CCSDS to submit to ISO for ISO review.

OAIS-IF CCSDS 671.0 – OAIS-Interoperability Framework (OAIS-IF) – Architectural Description
This is our current project and involves continuing discussions developing a suite of standards allowing interoperable operations for archives and their providers and consumers.

Other CCSDS Work Projects
DAI has several pending updates to previous standards as well as several possible new projects in the OAIS-IF . Our intention was to be start the rather mundane up the existing documents once some of the previous projects completed. However, the issues between CCSDS and ISO have caused the current projects to linger around awaiting their ISO reviews. It also injects additional issues for some of the updates. We will likely choose to postpone those updates projects until we can determine if they will be able to be approved through ISO and what updates would be needed to obtain their approval.
Additionally we hope to continue to move forward on OAIS-IF abstract and concrete interface or protocol standards that would support archive interoperability. We will likely commit most of our resources to continuing this work while CCSDS and ISO continue to resolve their issues.

We welcome additional ideas and proposals for the development of other digital archiving and archive inoperability standards.

We look forward to joining all of you over the next few weeks to discuss your issues and questions and to make progress on our standards development projects.

Hope, Health and Peace,
-JOhn Garrett
