Hi John,

I just spoke to Mike and realized that there is a possible misunderstanding. The DAI is planning to develop a specific kind of information architecture. The Information Service Architecture (ISA) defines a set of registry, repository, and data product services that can be used to compose a variety of different information architectures, such as what DAI is now working on.

I think there is an excellent opportunity here for you to adopt the ISA, use it to realize the specific components you need, and kill two birds with one stone. To whit:
1) Define a realization of the ISA components
2) Use these to define the DAI specific architecture

I’d like to come talk to you guys about this on Tuesday. I’ll also point out that Steve Hughes was a member of the ISA WG and is already familiar with the ISA approach.

Please let me know what time works.

Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,

I don’t think there is any pressing need for you to drop by. However, if you wish to stop by, the best time would be sometimes during the Tues PM 1:30-3:30 session.

My understanding regarding RASIM is that DAI is willing to add it to the documents it will maintain in the future.
However, we currently have 4-5 projects open now and limited resources. So it would be several years before we would actively work on it. Therefor it is probably best for SEA to reconfirm it at the present time and we would add it to our schedule to start looking at updating it in a couple years as long as CESG approves of that.

Peace and joy,

Hi David,

Thanks for the feedback. I am really glad that the DAI WG has agreed to look into this and that there is appreciation for the fact that these registry and repository materials are of relevance. I was just digging through some older CESG materials for another purpose and was reminded that this work was actually a joint effort between the SEA ISA WG and the MOIMS IPR WG. So MOIMS had a hand in it as well, and Steve Hughes, now working in DAI, was one of the "perpetrators".

I have attached the most recent version of the .doc file that I have in my records. I think, however, that the best path forward is to ask Tom Gannet for his Word doc file. During the intervening years we had talked about various ways to improve the doc, but I think that Steve should be able to represent that viewpoint. One thing to consider is whether to leave this as a Green Book or whether to create a new Magenta or even a Blue Book defining actual, implementable, service interfaces. There is also the question of whether to update this document with UML/SysML diagrams at this point.

If you would like me to join the DAI WG for a working session on this during the spring meetings let's try for some time on Tuesday. That is the only slot I have available.

Thanks, Peter

Dear Peter

We discussed this at yesterday’s DAI telecon. We agree that there is overlap with DAI and would be interested in pursuing this further.
We assume you would take care of the formalities of the transfer of the Green Book project to DAI. We could then update the project plan etc in CWE.
We would need to look a bit deeper about whether to simply reaffirm or to make any small updates first. We discussed some ideas of relatively minor additions which would be useful but it needs a bit more thought.
Please send me the Word file and whatever file you have the diagrams in.

Regards

..David

Dear David & DAI,

In the following list there is an information architecture document (highlighted) that was created by an earlier SEA Information Systems Architecture (ISA) WG that produced this and then was disbanded. I believe that the document is still of value and that we could just re-affirm it with little effort. But I want to ask you to look at the document and see if you concur.

I am specifically asking the MOIMS DAI WG if this is something that you would accept into your program of work since you are also working on topics that include information architecture. I suspect that there may be value in this for the work you are currently doing.

I believe that the body of materials covered in this existing Green Book is entirely suitable for inclusion in the ASL document we are now editing in the SEA SAWG. It covers information models (Information Viewpoint) and also abstract definitions for registries and repositories (Functional and Services Viewpoints). Since these are abstract services there are no protocol aspects.

Please take a look at this document and let me know what you think. Is it of value to DIA and would you want to “own” it at this point? If it were just re-confirmed in the SEA SA would you find it of value?

Thanks, Peter

Dear Peter,
I am checking the status of books with (over)due date for action. Concerning the SE Area, I have compiled in the table below all the information I've found.
Basically, most of the due updates are on track.
Concerning 312.0-G-1 I think the decision was to "update " (from my notes at the Gaithersbourg meeting), but please confirm.

Two D-DOR Documents are due for Review since 2018. I assume ( and recommend) that the WG will address the need for update ( or reconfirmation) at the Spring Meeting, and will report about that.

One more question : the NWI anticipated at the Berlin Meeting (350.6-G-1) has not yet "materialised" into a Draft Project . Correct?

Please glance through the table and let me know if you have comments.
Thanks !
Margherita
