Ok, I understand. 

So we will postpone the discussion of our potential contributions 

related to supporting COMPLIANCE and REPRODUCABILITY 

of INFORMATION PREPARATION to the PROJECT CONTEXT

until after we have completed the work on the OAIS review.

Until then let me know if we can help about raising visibility of 

the IPELTU approach to support wider constituency building

as we have ongoing R&D in this area.

we have in the meantime spent some more thinking about the IPELTU document.

We would like to add the following comments to the previous ones:

We could support to impove this document regarding a coherent management of
documents as the the result of aiming at compliance with contractual and
other types of constraining policies which are finally the basis for
executable policies. 

It is mentioned at various points in the IPELTU draft that documents need to
be archived, but it is not clear why they have to be archived. This is
mostly related to a compliance motivation with externally imposed policies
and all relevant activities in the execution phase should therefore also
take place on the basis of compliance with the policies defined in legal,
contractual, and similar documents related to the context of the project.

If this point is not clear then we should re-examine the text. As the title
suggests this is about preparing information to ensure long term usability 
and this is done by collecting various types of metadata.  There may be
some compliance issues which, if not followed, might present long term
usage, but such issues are not the main reason for collecting such
documentation (the types of which are listed in section 4). At the moment
there is nothing in the document about how the data may actually  be
managed.

Furthermore, we could support to improve the reference to the functional
entities of OAIS in the IPELTU draft. The result of the Planning Process
could, e.g., be that policies can be implemented in the framework of the
reference model of OAIS and its set of Functional Entities.

I dont see how the OAIS Functional Entities are relevant in this document
since this is about what happens when a project is creating the information,
some of which may need to be preserved. So as Figure 1-1 indicates the
information that is collected as a result of following IPELTU would then be
ingested into an OAIS  presumably following PAIS 

Finally we could support the contribution of the concept of Adaptive and
Machine Readable DMPs In this way reproducibility of all planning and DM
executions would become possible to validate the execution of the decisions
made in the Planning Process, so that they can be used in the controlling
phase or Control Collection Group etc.

As I indicated above my understanding is that this document is about
ensuring that information (metadata) is collected while the data which is
a real interest is created. On the other hand it may be sensible to ensure
that metadata is collected which is relevant for Adaptive and Machine
Readable DMPs  can you suggest examples which could be added to section 4?

I have just boarded my flight to Huston and will arrive in San Antonio
tonight. 

I will participate in the meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As you are starting to discuss the current IPELTU version this afternoon,

I have read it now for the first time and would be interested to learn,

How it will support policies.

Reading the document, I could not find anything about policies although

their relevance and importance is currently widely discussed in the related
work

of all relevant communities.

There are at least two types of policies that have to be considered. 

The first type of policies, are the more high level formal, i.e., legal or
contractual 

policies that all projects have to comply with when performing DMP as well
as 

corresponding IPELTU activies. Typically they are only available in non
machine-

readable ways, i.e., as parts of funding/grant agreements, legal frameworks,
etc.

The second type of policies is more related to the actual execution of Data
Management

Operations, and deals with securing redundancy, intregrity, authenticity as
well as

Security in general during collection management time. Some of them can
already be represented

In machine readable formats as rules or similar.

We have been doing some work in this area as related to Dynamic DMPs being
able

To comply with all sorts of such policies and could support this knowledge
domain also

in the IPELTU document, if this was deemed appropriate.

Maybe you can already address this already at the side this afternoon, so I
can get some feedback from ypu 

during tomorrow.
