Members of the CSTSWG --
The CCSDS Real-time Radiometric Data Transfer Service (RRDTS) is to be
implemented as a CCSDS Cross Support Transfer Service that transfers
Tracking Data Messages (TDMs) conformant to the CCSDS Tracking Data
Message Draft Recommended Standard (CCSDS 503.0-R-2, December 2006),
hereinafter referred to as the "TDM Red Book". Although the TDM Red Book
states (section 3.1.6) that "It shall be possible to exchange a TDM
either as a real-time stream or as a file", it does not prescribe any
method for using TDMs to transfer real-time streaming
radiometric/tracking data.
I have just uploaded to the CSTSWG CWE workspace a technical note
entitled "Streaming CCSDS Tracking Data Messages Over a Cross Support
Transfer Service". This technical note identifies several approaches for
transferring TDM data via a real-time CSTS, and proposes and elaborates
on one of them. It also identifies an issue with extensive metadata
overhead that could occur if multiple tracking data measurands have
varying data qualities, and identifies several possible solutions.
