Dear CMC,

The chair of NAV WG, David Berry (NASA/JPL), is planning to step down in view of his upcoming retirement and would like to ensure a smooth handover.

I very much appreciate David’s commitment and professionalism to ensure a well organized handover of the leadership of this important WG to the new chair.

Please let me know within 30 days if you would like to nominate a candidate from your agency for this position.

Please also send a note if you do not have a candidate to speed up the process.

Best Regards

Mehran

Subject: Request for Invocation of CCSDS Processes to Nominate and Select a New Navigation Working Group Chair

Mehran:

As we discussed today, 26-Jun-2026, I am planning to retire circa February 2028. I would like to request that you initiate the requisite CCSDS processes to obtain nominees for the Chair of the CCSDS Navigation Working Group and conduct the requisite polling to approve the eventual nominee. While it may seem early to initiate these processes, I know that they take time. I am very interested in a smooth transition to the new leadership, and will support that transition in any way I can.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter,
David Berry
