Dear Peter,
It was good, indeed, to receive your kind message, giving to all of us an
account of your current, for sure, certainly enjoyable and evidently,
unretiring life routine. Congratulations.
Incidentally, if you happen to eventually meet Peter Vaughan, give him my
best regards.
Thank you for your addressing to us.
With my best regards,
Eduardo

Assunto: [CMC] Greetings
Hi folks,
I was talking with Chris Perry yesterday and he mentioned that you were
asking after me at the recent CMC meeting.
This is what I have been up to since I moved away from the CCSDS family.
You will recall that in July 2015, I was asked to become the acting director
of the Hartree Centre, STFCs supercomputing department for industrial
applications. This was going to take all of my time so I had to give up my
involvement in space programmes at the time.
Later in 2015, I decided that I would retire in late summer 2016 and so I
did not apply for the permanent post of the director of the Hartree Centre.
My decision was based on the fact that there were so many things that I
wanted to do outside work that the only way I could find time to do them was
to retire. After my time as the acting director of the Hartree Centre, I
moved back to space activities at RAL between May and September 2016 and I
retired in the middle of September 2016.
I now do spend more time playing golf, I have taken up croquet, I am doing
more electronics, amateur radio, and computing projects, and my wife and I
seem to take some sort of a holiday most months. I am also catching up with
some projects around the house that were on hold for far too long. I am
still going to RAL one day per week (typically) since I have a position as
an Honorary Scientist with STFC. This lets me use the facilities and I am
working on a couple of astronomical research projects.
I have fond memories of all the work that we did together and what we
achieved. I was even wearing my CCSDS tee-shirt last week.
All things considered, life is very good.
Cheers
Peter Allan
