Tomaso de Cola

Position in the company: Research Scientist in the Integrated Satellite Systems Group in the Satellite Networks Department of the DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation.

Education:
Master in 2001 and Ph.D degree in 2010 from University of Genoa, Italy.
Experience:
His experience and research areas include broadband satellite systems communication protocols, DVB-S2/RCS2 and multibeam satellite systems as well as deep space communications. He has been involved in several project and standardisation activities around several aspect of networking and communications with particular focus on optimisation of TCP protocols over space networks, DTN validation and performance enhancement of underlying protocol layers as well as system validation through testbed development. Its main activities relate to project management, TCP/IP protocol suite and DTN deployment in terrestrial and space applications.
He has been involved in several standardisation activities within CCSDS, ETSI, DVB, and partly in IETF.
He is author of more than 50 papers in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
He is currently serving as vice-chair of the Satellite and Space Communications technical committee within Comsoc (Communication Society in IEEE).
He has been involved in the following projects (selection):
