Dear CMC colleagues,
in preparation of the teleconf tomorrow on the noinations for AD and DAD
positions, I would like to make the following nominations on the ESA's
behalf:
MOIMS AD: ESA proposes Mario Merri, as a replacement of Nestor Peccia
(ESA). Mario is currently WG chair for the SM&C WG. and would vacate the
WG chair position when taking up duries as AD. In addition to his role in
CCSDS, Mario is Head of the Mission Data Systems Division in ESA, and as
such he is in the position to iinfluence the infusion of the CCSDS
stabdardisation results in future control systems. Mario is also project
Manager for the Standardiation at the European Space Operatins Centre,
including CCSDS and ECSS standards.
SOIS AD: ESA proposes Martin Suess, as a replacement of Chris Taylor
(ESA). Martin Suess is currently the Head of the On-Board Payload Data
Processing Section at the European Space Research and Technology Centre
(ESTEC) of the European Space Agency (ESA) in Noordwijk in the
Netherlands. He and his group are working on payload data processing
systems and technologies for satellite missions in the field of Earth
observation, planetary, and deep-space exploration. One particular
interest is the development of on-board processing architectures,
high-speed and very high-speed on-board networks where they have a leading
role in the development of the SpaceWire standard, SpaceWire compliant
devices, test equipment and units. Since 2012 he is chairman of the
SpaceWire working group which is defining the evolution of SpaceWire
standard with participants from agencies, industry and academia world
wide.He has been the convener of the European Cooperationfor Space
Standardisation (ECSS) WG for the SpaceWire protocol standards
ECSS-E-ST-50-51, 52 and 53 which define the protocol identification, the
remote memory access protocol and the CCSDS packet transfer protocol over
SpaceWire and he is leading the SpaceFibre standardisation in ECSS. From
2008 to 2013 was co-chairman of the Technical Committee for
Instrumentation and Future Technology in the Geoscience and Remote Sensing
Society of IEEE. .He is senior member of IEEE.

Dear CMC Members:
This is a reminder that the AD and DAD vacancy discussion next week will not
only be about the UK Space Agency representatives. All vacancies will be
discussed which include the following:
MOIMS AD and DAD
SOIS AD and DAD
SEA DAD
To this end, if you have nominees for these vacancies, please inform the
group prior to the telecon next Tuesday so that all the candidates can be
reviewed and discussed during the call.
Thank you.

At the November CMC meeting, I was given the action:
UKSA delegate is requested to provide information on the potential to place
certain DADs positions up for new nominations.
The people involve are Stuart Fowell (SOIS), Roger Thompson (MOIMS) and Dai
Stanton (SIS).
I sent the following information to Nick Tongson before Christmas, but I am
now giving it wider circulation.
Since the CMC meeting, Stuart Fowell has left SciSys and the space industry
in general, so he certainly needs to be replaced. There is no obvious
candidate from the UK to replace Stuart as DAD and so I suggest that we need
to open this up to wider nominations. Given that Chris Taylor is also
retiring next year, we should consider how best to replace both the AD and
DAD.
Roger Thompson is happy to continue as DAD for MOIMS, but he does wish to
focus his efforts on the SM&C working group and the developing Planning BOF
and consequently he is content to hand over the reins of the DAD post to
someone else if that would be beneficial. We have also been discussing for
about a year now how best to replace Nestor as AD for MOIMS after he became
chair of the CESG. Again, we should consider if replacing both the AD and DAD
for MOIMS would be beneficial or not.
To summarise:
The SOIS DAD post is definitely vacant and UK SA is not offering a person to
fill it. (We will replace Stuart Fowell with Richard Melvin to take part in
the working groups, though.)
Roger Thompson is content to stand down from the MOIMS DAD post if that will
help resolve issues at the AD/DAD level. UK SA is not offering a replacement
for Roger in the DAD role. Roger will, however, continue to play an active
role at the working group level in the SM&C WG and in the Planning WG. In
fact the reason that Roger is content to give up the DAD role is so that he
can devote more time to the WG activities.
Dai Stanton wishes to remain as SIS DAD.
Cheers
Peter
