sorry to come back late but I just got some feeback from colleagues I consulted on this action ; nothing really opposed to my previous contribution but some different wordings...
See below:
- CCSDS general objective should be to advance space data systems technology through innovation and standardization
- CCSDS should first develop the standards to answer the most urgent needs of the space programmes in the domains of cross support between space agencies and interoperability of data systems of their ground and space segments.
- CCSDS should target to produce standards that enable the development of interoperable ground and space segment elements.
- the standards produced by CCSDS should provide a complete and comprehensive solution in each domain of the interoperability between the space data systems
- CCSDS should address the future challenges of space communications & operations, and the anticipated needs of projects provided by agencies and/or IOAG
* to use higher frequency bands and optical links for increased data transfers
* for higher data rates through more efficient modulations, coding and
compression techniques
* to protect links and systems against attacks
* to complement the solutions for ground cross support
* to raise the cross support interfaces to the layer of internetworking for
the longer term
* to provide end to end solutions for file transfer operations
* to propose mission operations functions and services to enable ground and
on-board interoperability at the application level
* to manage efficiently the cross support services
- in pursuing these goals, CCSDS should avoid duplication of standards existing in other standard organizations
- CCSDS should reduce the number of options in the standards that are proposed in order to minimize the need for tailoring and achieve true interoperability
- CCSDS should seek international recognition for its standards through adoption by the ISO TC20 SC13
- CCSDS should promote the use of its standards in the wider space community (beyond space agencies) including public and private organizations.
- CCSDS should produce regular assessments on the use of the standards by whom.
I will use these definitions in our discussion on Friday ; no need that you update your synthesis at this stage.
