Dear Mike,

thank you for this proposal.
Some comments and suggestions as follows :

1. The week of 03-07 May, i.e., immediately following SpaceOps

I do not see a big advantage in having the CCSDS WG meetings in an adjacent week to the Space Ops : two weeks away from office seems to be inacceptable for many of us ; the statistics from Rome 2006 show that very few people stayed two weeks. Here, I understand different locations are planned ...
For the CMC members who are also involved in the SpaceOps, the proposed dates may mean three weeks away from office, which cannot happen.

2. The week of 17-21 May, i.e., two weeks after the end of SpaceOps.

This sounds a bit better except that the dates of the Spring meeting are somewhat drifting towards Summer, carrying a risk that the Fall meeting may be delayed or skipped (already happened in 2006) ; the intervals between meetings should not be as regularas possible.
Another drawback is of course for the non US that they have to travel every two weeks...

3. Alternates
I am not sure that alternates may be offered but let me raise this in the form of questions :

- Why is the CCSDS WG week proposed after and not before the SpaceOps ?
End March to end April would be fine in terms of meeting interval following F09.
The week just before SpaceOps for the CCSDS WGs, with a CMC after SpaceOps may mean three weeks away from office for even fewer people, compared to the proposed option 1. This was the arrangement in Rome...

- Who is organizing the F10 meetings in Europe ?
Is there an option for an exchange and a S10 in Europe x F10 in the US ?

Best regards

Objet : [CMC] RE: [Secretariat] [CESG] URGENT: Spring *2010* meeting options

CMC members: You saw the note below which was sent to the CESG. You are also requested to provide any inputs you may have on which option best supports your agency's attendance at both the SpaceOps and CCSDS meetings.

	1. The week of 03-07 May, i.e., immediately following SpaceOps
	2. The week of 17-21 May, i.e., two weeks after the end of SpaceOps.

Please respond to the Secretariat email address (secretariat at mailman.ccsds.org <mailto:secretariat at mailman.ccsds.org> ), and copy the other CMC members only if you feel that it is of interest to them.

Keep in mind that the two weeks (SpaceOps and CCSDS) may be held on the adjacent weeks, but they are not in the same location. SpaceOps 2010 is in Huntsville, and with the current proposal, CCSDS Spring 2010 would be near Norfolk, Virginia.

Also keep in mind that the Management meetings may or may not be the following week, depending on the decision that is made at the Spring 2009 meeting in Colorado Springs regarding INPE's offer to host the management meetings in June.

	Best regards,

	   -=- Mike

Area Directors: you are probably aware that SpaceOps 2010 will be held in Huntsville, USA, during the week of 26 April, 2010.

NASA is currently looking at two options for hosting the CCSDS Spring 2010 technical plenary meeting in the USA:

	1. The week of 03-07 May, i.e., immediately following SpaceOps

	2. The week of 17-21 May, i.e., two weeks after the end of SpaceOps.

Either meeting will probably be held near Norfolk, Virginia, USA. The CESG and CMC meetings will, as usual, be held the week after the technical meetings.

Both options have travel pros and cons for people who plan to attend both SpaceOps and CCSDS. However, we need to decide very rapidly which week the meetings will occur, since a hotel contract is involved. COULD EACH AREA DIRECTOR PLEASE CONSULT THEIR WORKING GROUPS AND MAKE A RECOMMENDATION TO THE SECRETARIAT AS TO WHICH WEEK ( 03-07 May or 17-21 May) WOULD BE PREFERABLE?

	Best regards
