Dear SFCG Colleagues,

It is with a heavy heart and a sense of tragic loss that I bring you news of one of our sterling members.

Arvind Bastikar, of the Canadian Space Agency, has died.

Arvind was driving to his home in Ottawa, from his office in St. Hubert (Montreal) on Friday, July 11, in the evening when he was involved in a fatal automobile accident. Nobody
else was hurt.

He leaves behind a widow (Joan), two daughters, a stepson, and grandchildren.  Our thoughts go to the family in this time of bereavement.

The family is in shock at this time, which is why I was asked to inform all of Arvind's ESA, NASA, etc (SFCG) colleagues. The funeral will be held in Ottawa later this
week. The date time and location will be announced, probably later today and I will send it to you as soon as I know it.

            "Age shall not weary him,
            nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun,
            and in the morning,
                 -   We will remember him"

Although Arvind had not been able to attend many meetings in the last few years, his contributions were always lively. I have fond memories of an evening meal with Arvind and Peter Vaughan at a restaurant near Frascati. Arvind ingored the menu and made a superb choice of food and wine by negotiating with the waiter. We will miss him Peter Allan ____________________________________________________________________ From adrian.j.hooke@jpl.nasa.gov Wed Jul 16 00:14:41 2003 From: adrian.j.hooke@jpl.nasa.gov (Adrian J.
